February 8th, will be a big day for figure skating in the Beijing Winter Olympics as the two arch-rivals will be against each other. The Men’s Single Skating short program event will take place at Capital Indoor Stadium (9:15). It‘ll be an exciting duel to watch when the two best figure skaters in the world will share the same ice rink.

The American skater Nathan Chen is the favorite in the Olympics this year but so is the two-times Olympic gold medalist, Yuzuru Hanyu. While Nathan has been in remarkable form for the last couple of years, the Japanese skater will look forward to winning his 3rd consecutive Olympic gold medal.

Nathan Chen is ready

The 22-year-old American skater is looking forward to his encounter with Yuzuru. He says, “It’s been a really great adventure and journey for me to have someone like him to share the ice with. He?has certainly been such a great inspiration to me, and so I’m really looking forward to seeing him.”

He further added, “I’m honored to be alive at the same time as him,” Chen said. “It’s pretty crazy what he’s doing.”

After winning his third straight world championship last year in Stockholm, Chen is looking very confident. He would surely try to forget his performance in the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics where he finished fifth.

Yuzuru is a legend

The 27-year-old Japanese skater will eye for his third Olympic gold this year in Beijing. Olympics are his favorite performing stage and it will be very tough to beat him here. He is a two-time world champion and has four consecutive Grand Prix Finals since from 2013 to 2016. Yuzuru also won the 2020 Four Continents Championship, after which became the first male single skater to get a Super Slam.

With most of the world records under his name, he’s one of the greatest male figure skaters to have ever set foot on the ice. However, it’ll be interesting to watch if he’ll be able to deliver the best performance in Beijing Olympics as well.
