The 4th of July marks American Independence day. Most people celebrate independence day in their ways. Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is widely known. The popular eating contest is one of the most traditional events of the year which takes place yearly on Independence day. Whenever one thinks about swimming, Michael Phelps etches to our mind. Likewise, track and field has Usain Bolt, and gymnastics has Simone Biles. But, for an eating contest, Joey Chestnut is a legend with no rivals.

Last year, he consumed 76 hot dogs in ten minutes. Yesterday, he devoured 63 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes and became the rightful holder of the mustard belt. However, an animal rights activist came in front of Chestnut, raising a sign that read “Expose Smithfield’s Deathstar.”

While Chestnut was swallowing the hot dogs, three protesters came onto the stage and revealed their signs. One protester came ahead of Chestnut and displayed the sign by shoving him to the side. Seeing his actions, Chest put him in a choke and left him down while the other officials carried the protester away. According to Today, the protesters were criticizing the methods related to hot dog manufacturing methods.

They came with Darth Vader and Storm Trooper costumes. The ‘Deathstar’ reference came from weapons used in the Star Wars movie franchise aimed at the largest factory pig farm in the country. They supply hot dogs for Nathan’s Hot Dogs. On a much lighter note, Nathan’s Hot Dogs donates 100,000 beef hot dogs to the Food Bank for New York City.
Apart from the protest, Chestnut once again dominated the famous competition. He is one of the greatest eating champions of all time. Apart from eating hot dogs, he has other distinct records etched into his name.

He is one of the best eaters of all time. Holding several records, he ate 103 Krystal Burgers in eight minutes. Likewise, he owns the record for 121 Twinkies in six minutes, 141 hard-boiled eggs in eight minutes, and 182 chicken wings in 30 minutes. He ate 390 shrimp wontons in eight minutes while eating 24 pounds of Poutine in 10 minutes.
