The NCAA Women’s Volleyball is witnessing a lot of player movement for the upcoming season after a spectacular 2023. A player movement in the Big Ten Conference, however, is grabbing a lot of attention as a Wisconsin Badgers player is moving to Oklahoma State.
Ella Wrobel is a 19-year-old offensive specialist who plays the outside hitter position. Despite her incredible profile, she was forced to almost stay invisible for the first two years of her collegiate career. Interestingly, Wrobel will now join the same team her dad played for after a somewhat failed partnership with the Wisconsin Badgers.

Ella Wrobel added a new post to her Instagram page where she could be seen donning OSU Buckeyes threads. Wrobel was ranked no. 11 in the top recruits list when she started her collegiate career with the Wisconsin Badgers. She has a height of 6’4” and boasted an average of 5.37 kills per set in high school.

Kelly Sheffield had picked a diamond during the preparations for the 2022 season. Despite this, the Wisconsin Badgers’ head coach hardly utilized Wrobel’s talent. She just played nine matches in 2022 and none in 2023. While she had back issues throughout the year, keeping her on the sidelines for the entire season was a questionable choice.
Now, the former Wisconsin Badgers player will truly start her career as an Ohio State Buckeye. Ella Wrobel’s father, Grant Wrobel, also played volleyball in college and was an OSU player between 1994-97. Now, exactly 30 years later, Ella finds herself in her father’s university. Interestingly, the ex-Wisconsin player might be secretly seeking vengeance against her former team. A big sign of it can be seen in her new uniform.

Is Wrobel challenging the Wisconsin Badgers with her new gear?
Sarah Franklin enjoyed an incredible 2023 season and bagged the AVCA All-Region Player of the Year honor this year. Franklin played the outside hitter position for the Wisconsin Badgers and sported the number 13 on her uniform. While Ella Wrobel donned the number 17 on her jersey as a Badger, she now wears the number 13 as a Buckeye.

This could very well be a declaration from her side that she will show capabilities as great as Sarah Franklin in 2024. This is very much possible, considering that she was a 2021 AVCA High School All-Region player. But it will be difficult since she hasn’t really played in these two years. Will Ella Wrobel continue her dad’s legacy and pay Wisconsin back for her unofficial hiatus?
