The drums of celebration at the University of Wisconsin’s Field House will not be stopping anytime soon. The Wisconsin Badgers Women’s Volleyball Team has finally quenched its month-long thirst for revenge and defeated the Nebraska Huskers. The Wisconsin Badgers stomped down the perfect 27-0 winning streak of the Nebraska Huskers on 24 November. Scoring the highest number of kills on either side, Anna Smrek supported her team like a mighty pillar. NCAA tweeted the video interview Smrek appeared for after her team emerged victorious in perhaps the biggest of the season.

NCAA.com’s renowned reporter Michella Chester asked Smrek about the mindset Wisconsin carried as they entered the game against Nebraska. Smrek said, “I mean, honestly, we were just going off on all cylinders from our passing our defense setting and, you know, a lot of us talked about kind of going into the match and playing our game, you know, controlling our side and getting back to Badger volleyball being true to who we are.”

True to her word, Wisconsin got back to the way they usually deal with their opponents: clean sweeps. Smrek scored 18 kills for the Badgers, including the final kill that served as the final nail in the coffin of the Nebraska Huskers. While Wisconsin walked all over the winning streak of Nebraska, they also stomped down on Nebraska from repeating their 2021 achievement.

The Wisconsin Badgers were the winners of the 2021 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship. Interestingly, the Badgers had registered a flawless season campaign in the 2020-2021 season. Thus, while the Badgers were desperate for revenge, they played with extra vigor to prevent the Huskers from replicating their achievement.

Interestingly, Anna Smrek was the MVP of the 2021 season when the Wisconsin Badgers earned their NCAA championship. In fact, they had defeated the Nebraska Huskers in the finals to claim the national title. The massive victory against the Nebraska Huskers right before the end of the regular season gives more definition and stability to the Wisconsin Badgers.
