If Gigi Johnson isn’t already trending on your timeline, get ready, because she’s about to blow up! This 5’4” setter is surely going to bring lots of sparkles to the volleyball court, along with her unique talent and determination. She has been going head-to-head with Actyve Volleyball Club, creating waves that got people talking. And just when you thought she couldn’t get any more impressive, she’s stuck in her place at Campbell Hall, Class of 2027. The more she climbs to the top, there’s so much more to this young talent that one would wish to learn—watch out, because she is on the rise!

Gigi Johnson has been on a serious tear this season, starting her time at Actyve Volleyball Club, where she gained her niche and foundation for her volleyball career. But in 2024-25, she shifted her base to the City Volleyball Club and not only did she blend, but she shone. Gigi served as the co-captain and has been a real asset to the team due to her expertise and passion, especially leading the team through some challenging matches.

Her list of athletic achievements is definitely not one to overlook. During the 2024-25 season, she had a few highlight-worthy moments such as making 2 digs against Tstreet Volleyball Club and making 4 aces against Academy Volleyball. When she hit the court with Actyve Volleyball Club, she continued to rack up some serious numbers: 2 aces against COLAVOL 15 Black, 2 aces against Union 15 Gold, 3 digs against SWMNVB 15-1 and 3 digs against MKE Sting 15.

But it did not end there- she scored 2 aces against Roanoke United 15 Red, 3 aces against USA South 15 Premier Black, and 2 aces against LMVC 15 Elite Sue. And let’s not forget the 5 dig performance against 305 VBC 15N and 7 digs against Club SAV 15 Mizuno. Gigi’s a force and we’re only just beginning of her career. And to start the new year, Gigi Johnson remains excited for the new season, and she’s making her excitement known on Instagram.

Sharing a fiery video of herself in action on the court, she captioned it with a simple but hype-filled message: “Excited about this team and this season. @actyvevolleyball #getactyve.”

Frankly speaking, given all the great scores and stunts she’s been producing, it only foreshadows that Gigi returns to rock the volleyball arena soon. But here’s the thing—this isn’t some random fluke or one-off performance. She’s got that undeniable star power running through her veins. Why?

Well, let’s just say that it is hereditary.

Gigi Johnson’s NBA legend grandfather!

It goes without saying that Gigi Johnson comes from a legendary sports family, and it is quite clear that she is created from the best! Her grandfather? None other than Magic Johnson … yes, that Magic Johnson is the basketball legend who single-handedly revolutionized the point guard position. His whole career Magic played for the Los Angeles Lakers during the team’s “Showtime,” winning five NBA championships.

Picked first overall in the 1979 NBA Draft after leading Michigan State to a National Championship, Magic later won All-Star MVPs and created generations of basketball fans with his entertaining style of play. And even after his premature retirement in the following year 1991, Magic featured in the All-Star game of 1992 and after, he returned one more time for one last ride in 1996 before bidding farewell to his playing career.

The bond between Magic Johnson and Gigi is truly magical, and I mean that pun intended!

Back in November 2023, Magic took to Instagram to share a heartwarming post that gave fans a glimpse into their special connection. He showed off the Halloween costumes of his grandkids, and Gigi’s outfit was a total showstopper. The 14-year-old (back then) rocked her grandfather’s iconic no. 32 Lakers jersey, with white Jordan sneakers and a purple glowstick necklace.

Magic shared the pic with a proud caption, saying, “My granddaughter wanted to dress up as pop pop this year and she did a heck of a job!”

And it didn’t stop there—come December 2023, Magic shared another sweet moment to celebrate Gigi’s birthday, writing, “Happy birthday to my beautiful granddaughter Gigi! She so intelligent, smart, caring and an all-around awesome young lady! Pop pop loves you!”
