In her long volleyball career, Ally Batenhorst has never shown any interest in leaving Nebraska. For her, the region, famous for its dramatic rock formations, has been closer to her heart. The reason? She has her loved ones in the region. Moreover, her parents served the Nebraska sports culture in their collegiate years. Being the eldest child in the house, she has been carrying the baton. However, in her graduation year, Ally shifted to Southern California to join USC. But with a call from the Pro Volleyball Championships, she is all set to return to her hometown. So, for such a Nebraskan, the expectation would be to date someone from the same territory. 

That’s where Ally Batenhorst’s stand came full circle. Her love interest is from Nebraska’s largest city, Omaha. But he never played volleyball. Rather, he once played for Creighton, the Huskers’ rival camp. Then what factors brought them closer to each other? Or what does Baylor Scheierman do now?

“Basketball is meant to be fun, and I try to enjoy it and get the crowd involved. I think that’s just what it’s all about, really,” Baylor Scheierman claimed once. Those lines speak volumes about his love for basketball. However, his initial days didn’t hint at anything going in such a way. Things only changed when he was two and a half years old. Born and raised in Hastings, Nebraska, Baylor started as any other Nebraska kid, enjoying time in farms and houses. His moment came when he watched “The Pistol: The Birth of a Legend”. The movie is based on Pete Maravich’s biography. Widely claimed as Pistol Pete, Maravich’s moves on the court put stars in front of Baylor’s eyes. 

He continued to watch the movie on multiple occasions, and that’s how basketball entered his life. In the following years, he didn’t come close to the shadow of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer. But his tall, skinny frame, wool socks, and hairstyle made the fans find Maravich in him. And what about his performance? 

On June 26, 2024, the Boston Celtics chose Scheierman as the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. His selection garnered largely favorable responses from NBA analysts. They viewed his experience and suitability for the Celtics as encouraging indicators that he could quickly make an impact on a team aiming to defend the title. Well, the performance front has only continued that momentum ever since. In his last five games, Scheierman has yet to taste defeat. Rather, in the matches, his contribution has come in the relevant moments in assisting the field goals. Against the Washington Wizards, he claimed 4 points.

Before joining the Celtics, Batenhorst’s love did some fireworks in his college years. In his last year (2023-24) at Creighton, Baylor Scheierman claimed his career-best points per game (18.5). In both his years at Creighton, he featured in every match. His stint at South Dakota State had a similar shine. In his final year, the 6’7” player claimed his career-best field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage (0.508 and 0.469). He also had his best rebounds per game in SDSU (9.2). Here is how the couple fell in love with each other

In September 2023, Ally Batenhorst and Baylor Scheierman started to date each other. The duo often showed up at each other’s games, clapping with all their heart. However, the job has never been easy. In 2022, Baylor had an option to choose the Nebraska Huskers as his college basketball team in the transfer portal. But he opted for Creighton. Later, in December of that year, he came to Lincoln to compete against the host. 

In the game, Baylor single-handedly uprooted the Huskers with his 24 points. The Big Red fans found it hard to sit on his performance. On social media, they chased his head. After the news of his romantic affair with Ally became public, the backlash went further south. However, the loving boyfriend did not feel deterred from attending Ally’s matches in Lincoln. Along with Ally’s sisters, he sat tight on the box and cheered without taking a break.

Later, he took the praise further by commenting, “They’re [Nebraska volleyball] so elite at what they do. Being a college athlete and trying to get to that level, I have a lot of respect for them and how they approach every day and approach the games.” Batenhorst returned the love to him by showing up in his matches alongside his mother, Shannon.
