With Lexi Rodriguez leaving, will Keri Leimbach fill her shoes or create her own legacy?

With a victory against the Minnesota Gophers on November 14, the Nebraska volleyball women’s team extended its winning streak to 22. An enviable stat in the Big Ten volleyball. However, the No. 2 squad has something more to cheer for. In the latest list of the D1 National Player of the Year, Nebraska setter Bergen Reilly and libero Lexi Rodriguez have reached the semifinal round. However, they have lots of opponents on the list. But their positions promote the full-strategy success of the team. However, Rodriguez is on the brink of her graduation. After the 2024 season, she will have to leave her position. In the Huskers’ glory days, that elevated the need for new players. But hold on! Coach John Cook has everything sorted.

On November 13, the Nebraska volleyball women’s team announced the signing of five prospects for the 2025 season. They are:

  • setter Campbell Flynn (Rochester Hills, Mich.),
  • opposite hitter Ryan Hunter (Charlotte, N.C.),
  • libero Keri Leimbach (Lincoln, Neb.),
  • middle blocker Manaia Ogbechie (Santa Rosa Valley, Calif.)
  • outside hitter Teraya Sigler (Scottsdale, Ariz.)

All of them have stunning positions in the PrepVolleyball rankings. Also, they have high numbers to support their inclusion in the No. 2 team in the nation. Now, let’s have a quick look at the details of those recruits.

Campbell Flynn is all set to join the Nebraska volleyball team as the setter

From January 2025, Bergen Reilly will find a 6’3” player with her in the practice hall of Nebraska volleyball. Well, she is Campbell Flynn. Throughout the years, the Michigan native has had success not only at the club or high school level but also in the global sphere. After all, Campbell has played for the US Girls U19 squad that claimed the 2023 FIVB U19 World Championships in Croatia. The same year, she found her berth at the US Girls U21 team. But this time, a similar success wasn’t on the cards. But she did something phenomenal in her home state.

What’s your perspective on:

With Lexi Rodriguez leaving, will Keri Leimbach fill her shoes or create her own legacy?

Have an interesting take?

In Michigan, Campbell Flynn helped the Marlins snag the Michigan Division 1 state championship at the junior level. In her high school days as well, she had a regular walk in the route of success. One such success story followed her, with her claiming the National Gatorade Michigan Volleyball Player of the Year title after her junior years at Mercy High School. Another prestigious title came to her with her selection in the Junior Volleyball Association All-National Team for the class of 2025. Such accomplishments brought her another glory. Campbell Flynn moved up to seventh place on PrepVolleyball’s national recruit list for the 2025 season. Now, let’s move to the next signee.

Teraya Sigler has John Cook’s unwavering support

Apart from showering praise on Teraya Sigler’s technical ability, John Cook had something to add. He threw his weight behind Sigler’s leadership skills. “She has amazing leadership skills and is a vocal leader who will be a voice in our gym from day one,” the coach proudly said. However, she has something similar to Campbell Flynn. Just like Flynn, she has also played for the US Girls U19 and U21 teams. However, the occasions have been different.

In 2023, she was there with Flynn in Croatia to win the 2023 FIVB U19 World Championships. But she extended her tale of success more by winning the 2023 NORCECA U19 Pan American Cup. For the US Girls U21 team as well, she appeared in the 2024 NORCECA Continental Championship in Canada. Now, as far as her stats are concerned, she had a .542 as a freshman in her high school. Furthermore, in that avatar, her average of 5.6 kills per set supported her team to claim the Arizona 2A state title.

While playing for the Arizona Storm club, Teraya Sigler earned the MVP titles in both her years. Her accomplishments came following her extraordinary contribution in winning the 16 Open and 17 Open national championships. And performances bring further titles. Teraya Sigler topped PrepVolleyball’s prospect list because of her all-around performance. Now it is time to welcome the opposite hitter on the list.

Gifted Ryan Hunter is the intense competitor the Huskers are looking for

Ryan Hunter witnessed the fanfare in the Sea of Red in a firsthand account. In August, she was in the audience box to watch the game that brought 92,000 individuals to the arena. Did that motivate her to join Nebraska volleyball once? Surely it did. But isn’t she a bubbly girl from Charlotte? The head coach of her school life says, “She would dance in front of thousands of people and it goes to show how hard she really works. She just goes for what she wants.” The Nebraska coach has almost the same words for her.

In his note, John Cook stated, “Ryan wants the ball in the big moments and likes to take the big swings.” How big her swings are? Well, she has been trained at the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program. For her performance, Ryan Hunter has been selected to the Junior Volleyball Association All-National Team for the class of 2025. The performance? In her sophomore season at Mallard Creek High School, she played the vital cog with 3.9 kills per set and had 163 digs, 72 aces, and 54 blocks. Before that, at Cox Mill High School in 2023, Hunter did a show of her extraordinary ability. She scored 4.3 kills per set on average and hit .317 with 169 digs, 51 blocks, and 49 aces. Result? Her squad, the Chargers, finished runner-up at the North Carolina 4A state tournament. Meanwhile, PrepVolleyball ranked Hunter 39th on its prospect list for the 2025 season. After the opposite hitter, it is time to fill up Lexi Rodriguez’s position.

Keri Leimbach will join in the place of a record-breaker

Lexi Rodriguez will not show up on the Nebraska Huskers’ next rosters. That would result in a huge vacancy, as the Libero has penned records in the jersey of the Big Red. With more than 1700 digs in her career at the Huskers, she is now in the second position on the list. Before her is only Justine Wong-Orantes standing. But Rodriguez can be assured of leaving her post in safe hands. How?

Nebraska volleyball has appointed Keri Leimbach in Lexi Rodriguez’s place for the upcoming seasons. She has 2,063 career digs in the state tournament. Moreover, as a senior at her Lincoln Lutheran camp, she averaged 6.0 digs per set with 54 service aces for the Warriors in 2024. Again, such valiant performances ended up on the positive side. Because of her superhuman performances, the Warriors won the program’s fourth state title in a row (35-3). Now the fun fact: being a Nebraska native, Keri Leimbach ignored several call-ups from other institutes, only to join the Cornhuskers. Meanwhile, PrepVolleyball put Hunter 39th on its prospect list for the 2025 season. Now, here comes the middle blocker.

Manaia Ogbechie turns in to join the Nebraska volleyball

The 6’3” middle blocker has a different level altogether. Coach Cook calls her “highly professional.” How? In her national stint for the US Girls U19 squad, she claimed the 2024 NORCECA Continental Championship in Honduras. Meanwhile, her accomplishments doubled because of her showcases in the contest; she was named the most valuable player. But that’s not all. In her school years, Manaia had something big.

First, in her senior year at Oaks Christian High School, she averaged 3.3 kills per set with a.307 hitting percentage and 87 blocks. Still, a few more brave acts remain. In her junior season in 2023, she played an important role in helping the Lions win their conference and qualify for the CIF Division I state tournament. And how were her flairs? There, she averaged 2.6 kills per set and hit .387 with 119 total blocks. Those numbers were enough to place her at the 61st position in the list of prospects made by PrepVolleyball for the 2025 season.

Now eyes will be on the 2025 season to witness the spark of these recruits in the Big Red. However, John Cook is excited about their prospects. In a press conference, the veteran coach said, “I’m really excited about that group and they’re those guys who are gonna come in and compete; I can tell you that right now.” Are you excited?
