The volleyball world has been full of twists and turns recently, from the emergence of new leagues like LOVB with the presence of NCAA legends to the storm of the players’ transfers. And talking about changes, Jovana Mirosavljević is in the news for her latest move that has created a buzz. On January 4, Avid went and dropped some tea on X about a big update on the reigning champions of the PVF, the Omaha Supernovas. Turns out, the Supernovas have waived none other than their outside hitter, Jovana Mirosavljević—a move that has left fans of the sport with their jaws dropped.
“Unless there is something else to the story… what a bizarre choice. Has high-level national team/Champions League experience… committed to the league last summer instead of a European league…. 🫨🫨🫨,” the post reiterated, emphasizing her high-profile background. The Serbian star who could have played in Europe decided to join the Supernovas for PVF’s first season, and this has left fans wondering why the change. Avid summed it up perfectly: “I don’t think this is a good look.” And just when you thought the saga was over, we’ve got a new update on Jovana Mirosavljević that’ll leave you speechless!

As per volleynews.gr reports, Jovana Mirosavljević has been signed by Panathinaikos to take the place of Katarina Jovic. The 1.85-meter-tall player, born on 16th January 2000, began her volleyball career in Pazova, Serbia, and later represented Serbia, Romania, and Germany. Last year she was instrumental in Stuttgart as a key winger to clinch the championship, cup, and Super Cup. This season, Jovana was to excel in the U.S., playing for the Omaha Supernovas, but then the defending champions cut her loose.
Not wasting much time, Panathinaikos made their move, and all roads led to Jovana Mirosavljevic, illuminating Athens for the rest of the season. But for Omaha, it was a loss of a player, while Panathinaikos got a gem that could take the team of Giannis Charitonidis to the next level. At the same time, the lineup of Omaha is still rich as the team prepares for the season 2025, which will start on the 10th of January for them.

Omaha Supernovas’ rich roster!
This year’s Omaha Supernovas are bringing an entirely new energy to the season with only two players from last year’s championship team: outside hitter Brooke Nuneviller and setter Natalia Valentin-Anderson. When asked to compare and contrast the current team and the team of the past, Nuneviller said, “There’s a lot of similarities and differences for sure. With a brand-new roster, ‘Nati’ and I are focused on establishing a fresh culture and foundation for this team,” said on a press conference on Monday at CHI Health Center.
However, Lindsay Krause, a hometown girl, is now enjoying her professional life after playing her last season with Nebraska. “It feels surreal to have this opportunity in my hometown, and it’s something I’ll cherish forever,” she said. Krause will spend the summer playing alongside some of the best local talent, including Ally Batenhorst, Kaitlyn Hord, Kayla Caffey, Kendra Wait, and Allison Whitten. “I think ‘Novas Nation’ is going to be thrilled to have us on the court,” Krause said, making fans excited for what is expected to be an exciting season.

But decisions that were not easy to make had to be made as the team was settling for its roster. Nebraska’s two-time national champion middle blocker Briana Holman and six-match contributor Sophie Davis were waived. As much as it is bitter to part ways with these players, the new lineup will be expected to post an exciting 28-match season, 14 of which are to be played at home and the other 14 on the away matches.
The squad now includes: Outside Hitters: Brooke Nuneviller (Oregon), Reagan Cooper (Kansas), Ally Batenhorst (Nebraska/USC), Valeria Vazquez Gomez (Pittsburgh), and Lindsay Krause (Nebraska). Opposites: The two players are Kelsie Payne from Kansas and Emily Londot from Ohio State. Setters: Natalia Valentin-Anderson (FIU), Kendra Wait (Creighton), Mac Podraza (Penn State/Ohio State). Middle Blockers: Kaitlyn Hord (Nebraska/Penn State), Kayla Caffey (Nebraska/Texas), Toyosi Onabanjo (Kansas), Phoebe Awoleye (Minnesota). Liberos: Camila Gomez (Texas A&M), Allison Whitten (Creighton). So what are your thoughts on this new roster with Jovana Mirosavljević missing? Let us know in the comments!
