Both the Big Ten season and the NCAA Volleyball season kept all eyes on screens—this sport has enthralled the nation. After NCAA Volleyball season was over, several teams stood out; Nebraska which won a share of the title, and Creighton’s strong team, which was making headlines. But even the team with a deep bench like Creighton failed to avoid the taste of defeat that was as bitter as the cold winter. It was just a few weeks ago when Penn State beat the second-seeded Bluejays in a hard-fought five-set match 25-15, 16-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-7 to clinch their place in Louisville.
But for the seniors at Creighton, that loss stung as they bid farewell to a remarkable season and a phenomenal college career. And now, days after the emotional end, one volleyball star has officially said goodbye to her journey through heartwarming posts and wonderful memories.
Norah Sis took to Instagram just yesterday, sharing a heartfelt montage of memories from her time on the court. From epic moments with her teammates to unforgettable photos from the 2023 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship where Creighton triumphed over St. John, every frame told a story of dedication and joy. Her caption? Pure magic. “Absolutely nothing but love for this program and these people. Wowzers. Thanking the Lord big time for this perfect gift and for every single second of pure joy, of chaos, of exhaustion, of laughter, of celebrations, and even of defeat.”

Sis continued, “It feels impossible to put into words the love I have for all of the people who have made these four years more special than I could have ever imagined [blue heart emoji] thank you thank you thank you. Roll Jays forever and ever and ever and ever and ever.” Every word dripped with gratitude and emotion, painting a picture of a journey that will be cherished forever.

But wait, it didn’t end there! Norah shared another post, this time highlighting her rock—her family. Alongside a collection of pictures showing them cheering her on at games, celebrating her victories, and sharing those tender, heartwarming moments, she wrote the sweetest caption: “God was so kind to give me the greatest family in the world [blue heart emoji] MORE than thankful for these people who have been in my corner every step of the way”
Here’s a fun fact for you: On December 5, Creighton Volleyball made history by tying their school record with a 23rd straight win. They dominated South Dakota in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament with a clean sweep—25-10, 25-17, 25-14. Coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth also celebrated a monumental milestone, notching her 500th win!
But the real standout moment? Norah Sis etched her name into Creighton’s legacy by recording her 1,623rd kill, placing her second all-time in Creighton Volleyball history. That match? They never trailed in the first set, securing a 25-10 victory—their largest margin ever in NCAA Tournament history. And guess what? Off the court, Norah Sis shines just as brightly.
Volleyball Star off the court!
While Norah Sis dominates the volleyball court with fierce intensity, her impact doesn’t stop there. Off the court, she’s winning hearts as well, balancing her role as a top-tier athlete with her dedication to nursing. Whether it is breaking records or having an impact in clinical, Sis is just as passionate about it. After a tough September 10 match against Nebraska, where her team fought hard but couldn’t snap the streak, Sis quickly shifted gears.
By sunrise, Norah was in scrubs, working for 10 hours in one of Omaha’s hospitals. Her professor, Amy Abbott, put it best: “sweet as pie to her patients but an absolute bad mamba jamba on the court.” The grind doesn’t stop there. After a long post-match press conference, the team picked up either a box of pizza or a salad for the road trip back to Omaha. By 10:30 p.m., they were rolling out of the Devaney Center, and Norah Sis? She was out by 12:30 a.m., only to be awakened up abruptly by her 4:45 a.m. alarm. By 6:15 a.m., she was already practicing her 6:30 a.m. clinical. “The lack of sleep, I’ve done that before,” Norah admitted.
Creighton stands out as the only NCAA Division I volleyball team ranked in the top 10 with nursing majors on the roster—a testament to the unique challenge and opportunity they embrace. As Nebraska Public Media spoke with Coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth during the 2023 season, she said, “Very few top-20 programs around the country will allow you to do nursing.” It is this kind of balance that Norah is capable of understanding and recognizing the chance to merge her love for volleyball with her nursing aspirations.
