In 2021, Kiraly orch?strat?d a triumphant journey for th? U.S. Wom?n’s T?am in Tokyo, s?curing th?ir first-?v?r Olympic gold m?dal with a st?llar 7-1 r?cord, culminating in a dazzling victory ov?r arch-rival Brazil. This came from a hard-fought bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where Kiraly’s leadership propelled the team to a podium finish.
The accolad?s don’t stop th?r? ? Kiraly guided the U.S. women to their maiden FIVB World Championship title in 2014, a pivotal moment in a string of successes that included consecutive victories in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League from 2018 to 2021. The coach shared his thoughts by saying, “We aspire to be the team with the best teammates, the best connection, the best trust, and the best communication on the planet. We believe that can be a real competitive advantage in terms of coping with the people who are on the court.” And the coach’s plan for achieving that is fairly clear.

Kirali sets his expectations right away, “We wanna be one of the best serving teams in the world.” While also stating, “We also wanna be good on the other side of that…we want to be great in first contact when the other team serves and we are making our first touch receiving that serve.” According to Kirali, there is reason to be happy with the way the first contact game of the team went, especially in the Olympic qualifier in Poland.
Keeping all these in mind, it is time to “move on to the actual planning” knowing that the team will be competing at the Paris Olympics, Kirali said. The coach’s magic touch has led to triumphs in the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup, the NORCECA Continental Championship, the Pan American Games, and the Pan American Cup. So the coach is well aware of the capabilities of his team.

The confidence shows as Kirali says in the interview, “Certainly we are sure that we are capable of playing some great volleyball”. However, he is quick to point out, “It’s gonna take some more work to bring that out of ourselves on a more consistent basis.”?With Kirali at the helm of affairs, this should not be a problem. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for another golden saga.
