Things are not looking good for former Louisville Cardinals star Anna DeBeer. She was a crucial player who became the architect of the semifinal victory for Louisville during the 2024 NCAA Championship. However, the bad luck started when she was forced out of the final due to an ankle injury. Now disaster has struck once again on the cusp of the volleyball player’s pro debut.
The former Cardinals’ outside hitter joined Indy Ignite during last year’s PVF Draft in November. However, just as everything looked set for DeBeer to make her pro debut on January 11, Indy Ignite posted an unfortunate update for the fans. “Injury report: Indy Ignite’s Anna DeBeer will miss the home opener on January 11 due to injury,” shared the Indy Ignite Pro Volleyball page.
The response from Anna DeBeer’s loyal fan base was immediate. “I feel so sad for her!!! She has the hardest luck when it comes to injuries,” commented one fan, who had possibly watched DeBeer helplessly stand on the sidelines as her team crumbled against Penn State in the NCAA Championship final. DeBeer had scored 14 kills before sustaining the injury in set 4 on December 22.

So it’s not hard to imagine just how much of an impact the player with nearly 1400 career kills could’ve had against the Nittany Lions. And this is why DeBeer’s fans were shocked and saddened because they are well aware of the college volleyball icon’s skills. One fan used some strong words to describe how she felt after reading the news. “I’m gonna be sick,” the user commented.
🚨 Injury report 🚨

However, while fans lamented Anna DeBeer not making her Professional Volleyball Federation debut, none asked about the details of the rookie pro’s latest injury. Indy Ignite didn’t disclose any details either. “Wishing Anna a speedy recovery as she works hard to get back on the court,” the official X-page added to their announcement. Yet, fans may not have felt the need to ask and simply assumed the nature of the hitter’s injury.
Louisville fans showed support as the details of Anna DeBeer’s injury remain shrouded
While some fans simply empathized with DeBeer, others encouraged the volleyball star. “This poor girl can’t catch a break,” commented one empathetic netizen. However, it seemed everyone assumed that it was the ankle. After all, it was the ankle injury that kept the former Assumption High School alumna out of the NCAA finals.
So there’s a possibility that Anna DeBeer has once again injured the body part that’s caused recurring issues. In fact, a 2019 ankle injury nearly prevented the former college volleyball star from leading her team to a state championship title in high school. As per the Courier-Journal, DeBeer injured her left foot during the weekend leading up to the state title.
Assumption coach Ron Kordes thought his star player would have to sit on the bench as the hitter couldn’t even walk a day before the final. However, the former All-American surprised everyone when she walked on the court and helped Assumption win the title. So it’s no wonder Cardinal fans showed up to support their resilient hometown hero in the comments.

“Continue working hard Anna. The rewards will be endless. GO CARDS,” commented one Louisville Cardinals fan. Although Anna DeBeer is now a pro, the die-hard fan’s comment made it seem otherwise. Meanwhile, another fan requested DeBeer’s current team to do everything they can for the outside hitter. “Take care of our girl!! She’s the best!!!” proclaimed the user.
Thankfully, as consolation for her bad luck, Indy Ignite didn’t suffer the same fate as the Cardinals did in the NCAA finals. While Anna DeBeer couldn’t compete during Ignite’s home debut, at least she saw her team win. The PVF team defeated their opponent, Orlando Valkyries, in the season opener. Needless to say, they’ll also provide DeBeer with the support she needs to recover. However, the team also didn’t divulge how long the outside hitter will remain out of action.
