It wasn’t the best Sunday for the Omaha Supernovas. Ally Batenhorst and her posse were handed their second straight loss in 2025 as the San Diego Mojo picked up a major 3-2 victory at the CHI Health Center, the Supernovas’ home turf. However, the reigning PVF champion squad’s star outside hitter had something to smile about despite the loss. And it wasn’t any thanks to volleyball.
Popular video-making app TikTok was banned in the USA on Saturday night. Considering the massive fanbase the brand has in the country, the announcement was naturally met with resentment. However, Donald Trump stepped in and promised to stall the ban implementation, which saw TikTok services being restored by Sunday. And Ally Batenhorst couldn’t be happier about it.
In her TikTok upload from January 19, the former Nebraska and USC star shared her emotional status via a short video clip. In the update, Batenhorst, and two of her teammates Toyosi Onabanjo and Kaitlyn Hord can be seen falling to their knees, being overwhelmed by the fact that “TikTok is Back“. Ally marked the moment with the caption, “we’re BACK,” underscoring how the ban announcement was dreaded by herself and many of her comrades. However, thanks to the President-elect, the Omaha Supernovas stars’ day has been saved.

When users tried to open TikTok on Saturday night, they were met with a message about the ban. Apart from notifying them of the ban, the message further stated, “President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office,” urging fans to stay tuned for an update. But the anxious hours came to an end the very next day, when the social media platform made a statement, saying, “We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok,” noting that the procedure to restore services was underway. And that was enough to make Ally Batenhorst beam.
The former USC Trojans athlete is as popular on TikTok as she is on the volleyball court. With over 234,000 followers on the platform, fans regularly get sneak peeks into the life of the celebrity NCAA volleyball star. With Batenhorst being drafted by the Omaha team for the second season of the PVF, her followers were once again excited to see where Ally’s next chapter in life took her. Now that the communication channel for her to remain in contact with the fans has been secured, Batenhorst will need to turn her focus on the responsibility at hand.
Can Ally Batenhorst help the Supernovas defend the PVF title?
The 2024 PVF winners began their second season on a high note. In the first two matches, the Omaha Supernovas defeated both Atlanta Vibe and Grand Rapids Ride, and fans saw sure signs that the Pro Volleyball Federation trophy would remain in Nebraska for another year. Moreover, a record attendance in the team’s first home match of the year made it clear that the fans were also willing to do their part to supply the squad with all the motivation they needed. However, things went south soon. In the next two matches against Vegas Thrill and San Diego Mojo, the Supernovas took a beating, the last of which came on January 17 at the CHI Health Center.

On top of that, rumors about Omaha being in the process of joining the newly announced Major League Volleyball (MLV) after the completion of the 2025 season also have many speculating if this would impact PVF’s growth trajectory. While the Federation claims that the Supernovas’ departure wouldn’t matter, given the large fanbase the Nebraska team revels in, it could lead to a significant dent in the league’s overall popularity.
However, head coach Laura Kuhn refuses to give much thought to the speculations and is instead looking forward to having a blast this year. But first things first. Omaha will once again hit the road for a match against Columbus Fury at the Nationwide Arena next Friday. Do you think Ally’s relieved feeling about TikTok’s return and Coach Kuhn’s determination to focus on the current campaign will be able to help the Supernovas bounce back from its recent misfortune?
