Who does not like it when two sporting worlds combine? That transpired on February 6th when the Texas volleyball rivalry stepped up the ante. The match between LOVB Austin and LOVB Houston in the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Austin was a match of enthusiasm and vigor. The rivalry was real, but something cooler happened on the sidelines—three-time Olympic champ Gabby Thomas was in the stands!
As the match played out, Houston came out on top with a 3-1 victory. But the real cherry on top came post-game. Gabby Thomas, the track and field legend, was presented with a special volleyball gift after the thrilling rivalry game. Talk about the ultimate sports crossover moment!
Following the match, LOVB Style quickly shared the best post-match snap between the two game legends. In the picture and video, Chiaka Ogbogu presented Gabby Thomas with her own LOVB Austin jersey. Gabby, the ever-jovial and spirited lady, had her mouth wide open in sheer joy and anticipation as she prepared to take a photo with the jersey.

You could feel the energy in the air as she soaked in the moment! The post was captioned with a simple yet fitting line: “real recognize real 😌 @gabbythomas 🤝 @chiaka11,” a nod to the mutual respect between these incredible athletes. It’s just a perfect mix of passion, pride, and good vibes.
The sets were quite thrilling and depicted how much the Houston side dominated the game—31-33, 23-25, 25-21, and finally, 16-25. Houston definitely came out on top, but let’s talk about Chiaka Ogbogu for a second. This woman is a straight-up powerhouse in her own right! She is a two-time Olympian and two-time Olympic medalist and has been making waves at the Olympics.
Now, returning to the pro leagues, Gabby Thomas is not the only athlete who made it to the volleyball scene!
Crossover of sports apart from Gabby Thomas!
Yes, Gabby Thomas prepared to support the LOVB league game. But wait, she was not the only athlete from other sports present there! Just a few days ago, the Omaha Supernovas were absolutely crushing it against the Columbus Fury in a straight-up 3-0 sweep at the CHI Health Center in Omaha on January 31. But the real showstopper wasn’t just the score—it was the star-studded crew packed the stands! With 11,712 people in the crowd, it was like a celebrity gathering.
Then, speaking of standout talents, we gotta talk about Heinrich Haarberg. This young man is in his junior year at the university and the guy is a real talent–he’s not only into football but also has a thing for basketball. Before attending the Supernovas game, he was frequenting the Huskers basketball match against Illinois.

And hold on, the star power doesn’t stop there. Another Husker quarterback, Dylan Raiola, also attended the Omaha Supernovas game. This true freshman is already making waves in football and played a key role in getting the Huskers bowl-eligible last season. Coach Rhule wasn’t missing out either—he brought his whole family to the game, turning their group into an ultimate cheer squad.

Of course, then there was Terrance Bud Crawford, the boxing legend himself, who also graced the event for the ladies. The man has four championship titles, so you can bet his support was real. Oh, and don’t think that was the last of the crossover action—Caitlin Clark was at the Indy Ignite Pro Volleyball game last month.
A little mix of hoops and volleyball? Yes, that’s the type of crossover each one of us needs in our lives.
