With a jaw-dropping 23-1 r?cord, th? Badg?rs hav? b??n nothing short of voll?yball ma?stros, clinching wins in 13 out of th?ir last 15 clash?s. The Nebraska and Purdue matches were the only ones to escape their prowess, and they were hungry to add Penn State to their hit list. However, Penn State bounced back and gave a mighty jolt, taking the match away. The official page of Penn State Women?s Volleyball shared a video celebrating their win with the caption, “UPSET IN HAPPY VALLEY!”

Th? first s?t was an absolut? nail-bit?r. Giving a tough fight to Wisconsin, Penn State ultimately lost it 23-25. But it seemed that they went into the match with the intent of winning it. They posed a fierce bounce-back to claim the second set 29-27. From here, Penn State tasted blood. It gave them the momentum they needed. The Badgers witnessed the match getting slipped off their hands as they lost the last two sets 25-23 and 25-18, respectively. Sitting at number 2, the Badgers probably did not see this 3-1 defeat in coming. However, their defeat seems to have become an advantage for another top team.

Badgers’ loss, Huskers’ gain?

The Nebraska Huskers, on the other hand, are leading by 1.5 games over Wisconsin in the Big Ten standings, as pointed out by Lincoln Arneal who covers Nebraska volleyball. For now, the Huskers are one game up in the win column and two in the loss column. Average them and the difference is 1.5. Arneal’s tweet regarding this reads, “Nebraska currently has a 1.5-game lead on Wisconsin in the Big Ten standings. The Huskers have a two-game lead in the loss column as of now.” Side by side, he also brought out another interesting aspect of the tournament.

Nebraska still has 5 games left in their hands, including a road match against Wisconsin itself. And Nebraska’s pain with the away matches is not unknown. But, Arneal writes, “NU?s magic number to win the Big Ten outright is 4 (combination of NU wins & UW losses) with 5 games left.” The indication is clear, even if Nebraska loses to the Badgers, but wins the rest of its games, their chances of winning the championships remain bright. Who says, the tournament is about to end? Seem like the battle has just become more dramatic!
