The Texas Longhorns slayed the mighty Nebraska Huskers in the finals of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship. Their victory comes after two previous failed attempts to take the 5x Champions down. With this, they have now become 5x national champs themselves, and Matthew McConaughey loved it.
Legendary actor and University of Texas-Austin alumnus Matthew McConaughey also joined the victory celebrations and congratulated the Texas Longhorns for their dazzling clean-sweeping win. His social media post acted as the cherry on top of the Christmas present delivered by the Longhorns to their fans.

2023 has been a Titan-hunting season for the Texas Longhorns, who also claimed big wins against Wisconsin and Stanford. Including Nebraska, these four teams have been the most dominant ones in the NCAA lately, winning eight out of the last ten championships. The match saw all the stars of the Texas Longhorns shine as they dominated the Huskers in both offense and defense.
Madisen Skinner, Asjia O’Neal, Ella Swindle, and Emma Halter shone as the most prominent stars for the Texas Longhorns. Skinner especially rose to the occasion and received the Final Four Most Outstanding Player Award. The outside hitter’s performance was synonymous with the 1996 smash hit of Matthew Conaughey, ‘A Time to Kill’.

Madisen Skinner landed a whopping 16 kills against the Nebraska Huskers in the final showdown of the season. The offensive front was co-shouldered by Asjia O’Neal, who tormented the Nebraska Huskers with five service aces. Moreover, she also scooped an 11-point run for the Texas Longhorns while she was serving in the second set.
Sophomore libero Emma Halter chipped away at the already weakened Nebraskan offense and secured nine digs in the match. She was helped by setter Ella Swindle, who also registered seven digs on the chart. In fact, both these players outclassed Nebraska’s defensive captain and 3x All-American Lexi Rodriguez, who could only dig six kills by the Texas Longhorns.

This match also served as redemption for the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, Jerritt Elliott. He had previously been defeated by Nebraska’s head coach, John Cook, in the 2015 finals and the 2021 semifinals. Thus, with one win, the Longhorns have tied up several loose ends. Were you also rooting for Texas like Matthew McConaughey? Or do you want Nebraska to avenge this loss in 2024?
