Women’s volleyball’s breathtaking viewership record
The women’s college volleyball season set a breathtaking viewership record, making it the most-watched NCAA match ever. Initially projected to reach 2 million viewers, the event surpassed expectations, with a peak quarter-hour recording 2.1 million viewers. The match between Texas and Nebraska drew in 1.7 million viewers. The statistics show a remarkable 115% increase from the previous year, solidifying its place in history as the most-watched NCAA women’s volleyball match.

Additionally, female viewers made up 51% of the total viewership, reflecting the increased interest in major women’s sporting events this year. The semifinal matches were also labeled as the most-watched ever, averaging 1.1 million viewers.
NCAA President Charlie Baker has high hopes regarding the continuation of this trend from this point onwards. He remarked, “This is not the end; this is a trend.” Furthermore, he added, “The sport has tremendous momentum with the fan community, but it also has tremendous momentum with young people. Young women are getting into this sport in a big way, and I think that means nothing but positivity and growth going forward.”

ESPN’s Dan Margulis noted that the viewership could have been even higher had the match been more competitive and extended.
