New game, same story—Omaha Supernovas just can’t stop dominating the Pro Volleyball Federation league! Following a victory against the Atlanta Vibe at their season opener, Nebraska’s first pro volleyball champs turned up the heat again on January 12th. With teamwork as tight as a perfectly set ball and stellar pin performances, they swept the Grand Rapids Rise in a nail-biting 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 victory. And let’s not forget the roaring Rise crowd of 8,706 at Van Andel Arena, setting a record for their home turf.

Now, the Supernovas are scheduled to play against Vegas Thrill on January 17th, but here comes the interesting part: it isn’t any ordinary season for the Supernovas. As it turns out, this will be their grand finale in the PVF league. In a plot twist straight out of a movie, Jason Derulo and the team’s ownership are making waves with a bold future move for the Omaha Supernovas.

Abby Barmore, Nebraska staff writer for @HuskerOnline and @On3Sports, brought some major buzz to X on January 16. She spilled the beans, saying, “Another professional volleyball league is coming to the U.S. in 2026. Danny White (the founder of the Supernovas) and Jason Derulo (his partner) and others are starting the Major League Volleyball. After the 2025 season w/ PVF, the Omaha Supernovas will move to the MLV” It’s a thrilling new chapter for pro volleyball in the U.S., and we’re all ears for what’s next!

Who’s in the all-star lineup of the MLV Founding Partner Group? Well, let’s begin with the Supernovas themselves—Nebraska’s flagship professional volleyball team that revolutionized the volleyball playing model. With their back-to-back championship seasons and record-smashing attendance, they’ve set the gold standard for the sport.

For 2025, their focus stays laser-sharp as they take ‘NovasNation’ on an electrifying ride at CHI Health Center Omaha, proving yet again why they’re the heartbeat of pro volleyball. Not only a singer who makes hit songs but also a game-changer in the sports world.

And of course, Kerri Walsh Jennings—the queen of volleyball, a three-time Olympic gold medal holder—and Benjamin Priest, the commercial mastermind who has transformed everything from Formula 1 to NBA ventures. Together, this squad is building a league that promises to take volleyball to legendary new heights. So what is this MLV all about?

From Nebraska and California to Florida and Wisconsin, the league will bring world-class volleyball to arenas across the nation. Since the franchises are all separate stand-alone companies and the extra attention paid to planning its organization down to the most minute of details, that’s precisely the image that MLV wants to present: the gold standard for women’s pro sports. But here’s the real game-changer: they’re funding development and support for amateur-level programs while simultaneously creating legitimate careers for the new generation of female athletes. Women’s volleyball has been having its own golden era, thanks to trailblazers like the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who defied all odds when 92,003 fans filled Memorial Stadium in 2023 to see them trounce their foes, Omaha.

That electrifying energy carried over to the 2024 Women’s NCAA Volleyball Tournament, which has since become the most-watched ever with 1.3 billion minutes watched. And players? They’re doing better than ever before, and NIL has changed their ability to make money by 935 percent over the span of three years. Women’s volleyball right now isn’t just a sport but a movement, a celebration, and a future filled with unstoppable momentum.
