Pittsburgh Panthers Volleyball’s No.1 Seed Glory Sparks Double the Joy as Freshman Etches Her Name in Program History

On 27th November, the Atlantic Coast Conference unveiled the 2023 Volleyball Awards. Along with Pitt and Louisville, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Co-Champions Florida State, all have achieved the pair of volleyball season awards. Interestingly, the Pittsburgh Panthers went the extra mile in the volleyball season 2023.

With her excellent performance, Panthers’ freshman, Olivia Babcock, shined brightly in the 2023 ACC Championship and clinched the ACC honors. Pittsburgh Panthers is making headlines as ACC freshman etched her name in program history.

Olivia Babcock earns first ACC Freshman of the Year honors

With her extraordinary efforts and high potential, Olivia Babcock notched the 2023 ACC Freshman of the Year honors.  And she became the first Pitt player to receive this highly regarded award in the program’s history. Babcock performed well and led the Panthers with the highest points and etched her name in program history. By securing the amazing points per set she became a true freshman in the Power Five.

Babcock’s killer jump serve has reaped a total of 32 service aces in league play. Olivia’s overall digs were 91 (1.49/set), While she averaged .98 per set with 50 blocks (four solo). Apart from that, Babcock’s added 4.97 points per set along with 239 kills. Babcock averaged 3.92 kills per set while hitting .304.

Olivia received the ACC Freshman of the Week six times

The exciting player Olivia received the name as five ACC Freshman of the Week throughout her rookie season. The Los Angeles, California, native was honored to pick up two back-to-back nods. Despite being awarded as the first Panther of the ACC Freshman of the Year, Olivia Babcock has been instrumental in this season and being named as the ACC Freshman of the Week six times, and AVCA National Player of the Week. Along with this, the Pitt Player Babcock has also been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on 13 Nov 2023.

After hopping up in the standout season, Rachel Fairbanks got the honor of earning the ACC Setter of the Year for the first time in her career. Also, Torrey Stafford’s notable attainment made the sensation in the volleyball season 2023. This is the Fairbanks’ second ACC award in her career. Despite being awarded, Babcock and Stafford also earned spots on the ACC All-Freshman Team.
