The Nebraska Cornhuskers Volleyball team is on fire! And captain Lexi Rodriguez is a major reason why. She recently won her second Defensive Player of the Week award. With the team doing so well, they’re looking to add even more fresh talent for next season. And, wow, they did deliver—signing five incredible recruits, including Teraya Sigler. At a press conference following the Huskers’ game against the Gophers, a journalist asked Coach John Cook if any of the new recruits were standing out early. Naturally, Teraya’s name popped up first, and Cook had plenty to say about her. He highlighted her achievements at Arizona, her impressive passing skills, and her fierce competitive spirit.

But there was more to it than just her game. Cook revealed that Teraya’s desire to join the Nebraska Volleyball played a big part in the signing. It turns out Teraya shares a connection with Nebraska senior Lauren Stivrins, who hails from Arizona as well, creating an undeniable bond. However, Cook admitted that he wasn’t fully convinced by Teraya at first. “A couple of years ago, I wasn’t sold on her,” he confessed. “Then when they won Arizona two years ago, she put on a show; it’s pretty impressive.” But now, Coach John Cook has shared a surprising twist, revealing a different side to his earlier thoughts.

In a recent tweet from the Nebraska Volleyball’s fanpage Sushiskers, a glowing review from Nebraska’s head coach, John Cook, about incoming 2025 signee Teraya Sigler caught everyone’s attention. Cook praised Sigler’s all-around abilities, saying, “Teraya has a heavy, heavy arm, but she’s also a very good all-round six-rotation player. She is an extremely physical outside hitter but also a great passer.” It’s clear that her skill set goes beyond just power—her versatility as a player is something Cook particularly admires.

He continued to highlight her leadership qualities, mentioning that she has “amazing leadership skills and is a vocal leader who will be a voice in our gym from day one.” Sigler’s presence will surely resonate in the gym, where her intensity and drive will make her an invaluable addition. Not to mention, her mental game is just as sharp as her physical one, with Cook noting, “Teraya has really good range with her shots, and she’s a very smart attacker.”

With her proven performance on big stages like the U.S. Youth National Teams and AZ Storm, it’s no wonder Cook’s confident about her future with the Nebraska Volleyball. As he said, “She will come into our gym with a great attitude and will be a fierce competitor on the pin,” making it clear that Sigler’s blend of skill, leadership, and fierce competitiveness will add fire to the Huskers’ lineup.

Teraya Sigler, a 6-foot-2 powerhouse from Scottsdale, Arizona, made a huge impact in her freshman year, leading Phoenix Country Day to a state title with 392 kills and a .542 hitting percentage. After transferring to Horizon High, she helped secure another state championship, contributing 27 kills in the final match. Sigler also plays for Arizona Storm, the same club that produced Husker All-American Lauren Stivrins, and she earned a gold medal with the USA U19 team at the Pan American Games.

With Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting class set to replace key juniors, Sigler’s addition is huge. As the Huskers aim to fill the spots of standout hitters like Ally Batenhorst, Lindsay Krause, and Merritt Beason, Sigler’s skill and leadership will play a pivotal role in the team’s future success. So, who else is coming to make their mark?

Nebraska Volleyball’s talent hunt!

Along with outside hitter Teraya Sigler, four other promising prospects signed with the Nebraska volleyball women’s team on Wednesday: setter Campbell Flynn, opposite hitter Ryan Hunter, libero Keri Leimbach, and middle blocker Manaia Ogbechie. Coach John Cook had high praise for each of them. Speaking about Campbell, he said, “Campbell is an extremely talented setter who plays with a poised demeanor on the court. She’s got the calm presence you look for in a setter and never gets too high or too low.” He also described Ryan as “bubbly yet an intense competitor,” capturing her unique mix of energy and drive.

As for the other two, Cook’s comments were just as thoughtful. He noted Manaia’s game-changing ability: “Manaia is very dynamic and has the ability to change a game with her offense.” When it came to Keri, however, Cook’s admiration ran deep. Hailing from Nebraska, Keri fits the mold of the local talent that the Huskers cherish.

With over 2000 career digs, she’s ready to take on a vital role. Cook shared, “She’s calm and consistent on the court but not afraid to speak up and be fiery when it’s needed. Keri is a proven winner with four state championships in high school. We’re excited to have her come in and help us continue to be elite in the back row.” These glowing words speak volumes about why Nebraska volleyball is eager to have them join the squad.
