As documented by Hurrdat Sports, the fans showing up this way amounted to a rare sight. Moreover, the caption, “If you’re wondering how much Nebraskans love their volleyball,” highlights the Omaha Supernovas’ dominant supporter base. In fact, one of the fans resonated with this feeling as they took to the comment section and wrote, “Nebraska is a whole different type of volleyball world!”

Well, we couldn’t agree more with that fan—Nebraska really is its own volleyball universe. No wonder, throughout 2024, the Nebraska Huskers had been a must-see team at the collegiate level. In fact, brief research from November shows that the Huskers hold attendance records in at least 16 different venues! How spectacular is that? And now, the same hype continues for pro volleyball, particularly the Omaha Supernovas, proving that the city is all about volleyball love.

Omaha Supernovas’ fans put on some serious boss behavior

As one of the fans chimed in with a new nickname for Nebraska, they fondly called it the “Volleyball capitol of the world,” which is hardly surprising. Throughout 2024, Nebraska fans had been the reason behind multiple viewership and attendance records being etched. Just recently, as 21,726 people attended the collegiate match between Nebraska and Penn State, it equaled the largest crowd that has ever turned up to watch an indoor NCAA Volleyball semifinal!

And well, who’s forgetting that the Huskers’ viewership skyrocketed in 2024 as their game against Louisville became the most-watched regular-season volleyball match on ESPN? Plus, the viewership of the Huskers’ NCAA Regional final against Wisconsin garnered an average viewership of 798,000, the highest among the NCAA Regional this year. Clearly, it’s been a season of firsts for Nebraska volleyball fans—and the momentum just keeps building!

The Huskers also etched history when they became the first women’s volleyball team to debut on NBC in 2024. And now, PVF has been expanding its network of national broadcast partners to CBS, CBS Sports Network, FS1, and FS2 with nationally televised matches too. This brings so many more eyes to women’s professional league volleyball. No wonder, the effect of this boost is now showing up as the Omaha Supernovas come out to play. “Female sports on point!!!!!!”chimed in another enthusiast. Well, it really does feel like a revolution!

The fact that this Huskers’ hype is now translating to the Omaha Supernovas is also natural, given that the two share a deep connection. The Novas have picked former Huskers Ally Batenhorst and Lindsay Krause to join their roster for 2025. Not just this year, but in their debut year too, Briana Holman, Kayla Caffey, and Kaitlyn Hord had joined the Supernovas from the Huskers’ tent. Thus, a shift in fan energy toward the Supernovas is clear and it’s big.

In fact, the love for volleyball in Nebraska is so massive that even two pro teams—Omaha Supernovas and LOVB-Omaha—can barely contain it. But this aspect is a sure asset for Nebraska, as one of the fans flaunts, And this is why Omaha has 2 pro teams. Nebraska….a volleyball state.” Well, while both pro leagues follow the established international competitive volleyball rules, they have their unique approaches to help build an identity. And the fans love them the same amount!

But here’s a little warning for the future. The Omaha Supernovas fans have indicated, that the scene might get more crowded this PVF league season. “And that is just practice! Go Novas,” reacted a fan to their recent practice turnout. Well, it is quite a possibility. We have seen in the inaugural 2024 season that the hype that surrounds this team is just exceptional. Even back then, thanks to their fandom, the Omaha Supernovas reset the attendance record three time and were holding four of the then top five U.S. attendance records.

And let’s not forget the most iconic volleyball moment of 2023 had a core Nebraska connection. As 92,003 fans filled the Memorial Stadium in Lincoln for the match between Nebraska and Omaha on August 30, they shattered the all-time record for DI women’s college volleyball attendance. In fact, the regular season match officially broke the world record for attendance at any women’s sporting event, surpassing the 91,648 in attendance at a 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League match between Barcelona and Wolfsburg at Camp Nou.

As that hype continues this season, another fan urges others to keep fueling in the support. And it was awesome! So cool for my 10 year old club player to see. “So you’re saying if I want to, I could be a Supernova after college?” Keep supporting everyone! Our girls are watching!”Well, this is truly some legendary fan behavior from the Omaha Supernovas fans, in fact, from the whole of Nebraska! What do you think? Let us know below!
