The inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation tournament was a raging success. With that, the newly started professional volleyball league proved the collegiate scene isn’t the end of the road for NCAA athletes. Instead, a brighter future lies ahead for all those who wish to continue their love for the sport. Lifting the 2024 PVF trophy, the Omaha Supernovas hope to continue their momentum this year as well. However, their recent decisions are raising several eyebrows in the community!

Nebraska is the volleyball capital of the USA, thanks to the massive popularity the sport enjoys in the state. Keeping up with the tradition, the Supernovas also got the fans rallying behind the team exuberantly. A post by Avid on X from January 4 has revealed startling updates on the Supernovas’ latest move. As per the update, the reigning PVF champs have waived outside hitter Jovana Mirosavljević, making it a controversial call among the sport’s connoisseurs.

“Unless there is something else to the story… what a bizarre choice. Has high level national team/Champions League experience… committed to the league last summer instead of a European league…. 🫨🫨🫨,” read the post’s caption.

It notes how the Serbian international has experienced playing at the highest levels for several years. Furthermore, citing how the OH ditched the chance of playing in Europe to join the Supernovas for the first edition of the PVF tournament, the post concludes by saying, “I dont think this is a good look.

Understandably, community members also scurried to find a rational explanation for the move. One fan-run page pondered, “What on earth! Why would they do that?” underscoring this looks like a rather rash decision to take by the reigning champions. The astonishment was seen on other social media platforms as well.

But the frustration isn’t likely to end just there. Only a day back, Courtney Jackson was also waived by the squad for the upcoming PVF tournament. Despite the Supernovas losing many stars, new stars constantly joined the fray, taking the team forward.

Trying hard to maintain a balance

In November last year, USC Trojans star the Omaha Supernovas recruited Ally Batenhorst for the 2025 season. The decorated outside hitter is one of the most celebrated volleyball stars in the country, with her stacked experience giving Batenhorst an edge over her opponents. Hours later, the team also drafted Nebraska’s Lindsey Krause as their second OH. Ohio State’s opposite hitter, Emily Londot, was also on her way to join the squad, as well as Creighton’s Kendra Wait.
