The wait is finally over. The reigning champs have taken to the court once again and the second season of Real Pro Volleyball is off! But as the Omaha Supernovas fans walked into the CHI Health Center Arena to see the action against Atlanta Vibe, they had another special thing waiting for them.

First Alert 6’s Grace Boyles took to X on January 10 to share how the defending PVF champions greeted their fans before the season opener tonight. Back in May 2024, the Omaha Supernovas made history by becoming the first-ever Pro Volleyball Federation champions, sweeping the Grand Rapids Rise in front of a packed crowd of 10,678 at the CHI Health Center. Fast forward to 2025, and the Supernovas are still riding high on that championship glory.

Grace Boyles shared a picture of rows upon rows of seats, each holding a special surprise for tonight’s match. “Each seat at CHI has a commemorative towel with the last names of each player from the 2024 @RealProVB Championship squad on it,” Boyles’s post elaborates.  With an average of 9,656 and a total of 134,969 over the entire 2024 season, the Omaha Supernovas posted the highest attendance in the PVF. And that proved to be supremely beneficial to the squad.

Having the fans rallying behind the team at every match, Natalia Valentin-Anderson, Brooke Nuneviller, and the others went on to trounce every opponent they faced last year and ultimately lift the maiden PVF trophy. The feat was understandably a testament to the athletes’ individual and collective prowess and the commemorative towel hails their achievement with enthusiasm.

The towels waited for the fans on their respective seats and undoubtedly was a nice surprise. While some names on the towel are still on the team and will continue their journey with the Omaha Supernovas in 2025, others have since departed. However, their seminal attainment will forever be remembered by the fans who got to revel in the athletes’ success last year.

But this year, it’s expected to be an even more exciting one for the Supernovas fans. With thrilling stars like Ally Batenhorst and Lindsay Krause added to the team, volleyball enjoyers can expect the Omaha squad to be stacked to the brim and waiting to take down their opponents to defend the PVF title with gusto. However, while Omaha won its first match of the season, fans didn’t get to see one of the team’s most anticipated stars on Friday.

Omaha Supernovas’ new squad looks to maintain momentum

In November, the defending PVF champs drafted Ally Batenhorst as the 15th overall pick to the team. The celebrity outside hitter isn’t a new face in Nebraska, thanks to her days playing as a Huskers star before transferring to USC in 2024. After the move, Batenhorst also noted her excitement to return to Lincoln, where she was set to reunite with former Nebraska teammate Krause. While the thought of having to leave sunny California behind to relocate to freezing Nebraska made her anxious, Ally Batenhorst did her best to set up shop in the new camp.

The All-American honoree was one of the most exciting picks by the Supernovas ahead of the new season, and fans couldn’t wait to see how she fared. However, it ended in disappointment as Ally Batenhorst ultimately didn’t get a chance to show her hitting skills in the team’s first match of 2025. And yet, Omaha managed to trample Atlanta Vibe 3-2 and will take on Grand Rapids Rise next Sunday. Share your predictions from the match with a comment!
