The Titan has been slain, again. The Omaha Supernovas started the 2025 season with a bang. Winning both of their first two matches against Atlanta Vibe and Grand Rapids Rise, Kaitlyn Hord & Co. looked quite comfortable and showed intentions of retaining the PVF trophy. The reigning PVF champions, however, have hit a sudden rough patch in their title defense campaign, and have been handed their second consecutive defeat.

Now, champions don’t dwell on losses for too long. They cannot afford to. So, the Supernovas will be looking to get back to the drawing board, determined to mount a comeback. However, the latest loss may continue to sting them for a while. Not only did it come at a home match at the CHI Health Center, but it came in front of another record-breaking turn-up.

A post by On3Sports’ Abby Barmore on X from January 19 shared details of tonight’s match result between the Omaha Supernovas and the San Diego Mojo. “San Diego defeats the Supernovas 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22), updates the social media post, undoubtedly breaking many fans’ hearts in the state. But more saddening news followed quickly.

Tonight’s match saw 12,723 fans fill the seats of the CHI Health Center, the second-highest home attendance for the Omaha Supernovas in 2025. The fans had already made a record when 13,486 of them flocked to the arena in the first home game of the Omaha Supernovas against Atlanta, which the hosts won 3-2. The passion was reflected again tonight, but Laura Kuhn’s team failed to take advantage. But this time, the cheerleading contingent failed to help the squad to victory despite showing no lax in their supportive duties.

However, it wasn’t like the Omaha Supernovas stars didn’t put their best foot forward. With 62 kills, the hosts were ahead in the department, while San Diego only posted 56. Outside hitters Brooke Nuneviller and Ally Batenhorst got 22 and 12 kills respectively, showing their worth once again. However, that wasn’t enough to help their team all the way through. Looking back at the Supernovas’ pre-season actions, fans can’t help but wonder, though, if the string of defeats could have been avoided with better planning.

In December last year, the Pro Volleyball Federation powerhouse signed former Nebraska and USC star Ally Batenhorst. The OH celebrity also took to social media to note her excitement about returning to Huskers territory to pursue her love for the sport after her time with the Trojans ended. However, on the other hand, many fans were left baffled when the Supernovas decided to part ways with several athletes who helped them win the inaugural PVF trophy, including Jovana Mirosavljević and Courtney Jackson. Despite the fans’ clamor, it still looked like things weren’t going beyond control as the title defense journey started on a high note.

But tragedy struck last Friday when the Supernovas fell unexpectedly in the hands of Vegas Thrill at Lee’s Family Forum. And now, it looks like the first loss left the team shaken to the core, and it’s yet to get over the shock. But there’s not much time to bounce back. Omaha will be hitting the road once again, this time to lock horns with Columbus Fury at the Nationwide Arena on January 24. But can Coach Kuhn devise a plan to begin the comeback journey before that? What do you reckon? Tell us in a comment below!
