The US women’s volleyball team is on quite a roll this year. The talented American women recently solidified a berth at the Olympics with a stellar run in an eight-team tournament. While this is already a giant achievement, a few volleyball stars have gained success for their respective clubs as well.

Jordan Thompson, Chiaka Ogbogu, and Ali Frantti from USA Volleyball play for the Turkish volleyball club, VakifBank. A social media post recently revealed that the trio dominated a Turkish volleyball tournament in a close finale. In fact, they snatched the winning trophy from a team against which VakifBank was on a four-match losing streak.

US stars conquer the Turkish Women’s Volleyball Super Cup

The US women’s volleyball team has shown a lot of grit and skill in the past few weeks. The team finished a recent eight-team contest and ended up with a staggering scorecard of 6-1. While this safely booked the team a slot for the Olympics, the talented women weren’t done playing yet. The official X handle of USA Volleyball tweeted that three American women propelled their Turkish club to a tournament win. The tweet carried the caption, “Congrats to Jordan Thompson, Chiaka Ogbogu, and Ali Frantti who went straight from helping the U.S. Women qualify for the Olympics to helping their Turkish club team VakifBank win the Super Cup!” 

The final match ended on a close call as VakifBank earned a 3-2 victory. The American volleyball stars majorly contributed to this win. Moreover, Jordan Thompson bagged the finals MVP title as well. VakifBank put up a tough fight at the Turkish Women’s Volleyball Super Cup Finals. The victory didn’t come easy since VakifBank was on a four-match losing streak against opponents Fenerbache W.

However, the US women made sure to win a match that mattered the most as they ended the last set with a score of 25-21. The three will now go on to defend their Olympic gold medal in Paris in 2024. The US team has bolstered its strength by many folds for the Olympics. In fact, a three-time Olympian has returned from retirement to win another gold medal in Paris.

The unmatched strength of the American team

The Tokyo Olympics MVP Jordan Larson made a comeback to the US Volleyball team after retiring post the 2020 Olympics. Larson started every game of the qualifying tournament that sealed America’s berth at Paris, where they will be defending their Olympic title. The 36-year-old has featured in three Olympics and has won medals of all colors. While an established top gun has rejoined the US, the team has also recruited some fresh talent for the Olympics.

Coach Karch Kiraly has added several new faces to the women’s team of America for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. Building around Olympians Jordan Larson, Annie Drews, and Micha Hancock, Kiraly has formed a perfect balance of youth and experience. Among the rookies, Avery Skinner, Kathryn Plummer, and Khalia Lanier make the most significant additions to the team.
