The Michigan State University women’s volleyball team recently claimed one of their greatest victories in history. The team went against their biggest rivals who represent the same state and defeated them with a dominant season sweep. The remarkable victory came after a tough fight at the prestigious Breslin Center.

Michigan State University went against Michigan in a spectacular match that had everyone’s heart rates up. The women’s volleyball team of Michigan State University initially took a setback before emerging victorious in the end. In fact, the sweeping victory ended a 16-year-long drought for the MSU volleyball team.

MSU takes hard-fought volleyball match win and leads in all aspects

The tension at the Breslin Center was extremely taut as two iconic rivals faced each other in a fiery showdown. Michigan State University showered its offensive capabilities on Michigan and followed it with a strong defense to seal one of its greatest victories in history. Big Ten Volleyball posted a video clip of the MSU volleyball team after their magnificent win on its official X handle.

The tweet carried the caption, “The first season sweep over Michigan for @MSU_Volleyball since 2006! Michigan State wins 3-1 at the Breslin Center.” The video clip showcased the players cheering and celebrating with each other as they held the State Pride Series prize after a sweep that was 16 years in waiting. Known as Spartans, the women of MSU outplayed Michigan in every aspect. 

Leading the charts in kills, blocks, errors forced, assists, and hitting percentage, the Spartans held their home front excellently. Everyone from freshers to seniors made equal contributions to the memorable victory. This eased the pressure off everyone since Michigan wasn’t very far behind.

The comeback that set everything in motion

The MSU Spartans won with a 3-1 sweep with scores of 20-25, 28-26, 25-13, and 25-16. According to MSU’s head coach Leah Johnson, “It was a battle at the beginning, we came out a little flat… Once we got regulated, I thought we turned back into the team that I’ve been coaching all season.” The first-set loss was followed by a dominating attacking display, with the last two sets being completely one-sided for the Spartans.

MSU volleyball team’s freshman hitter Taylah Holdem scored a whopping 16 kills to lead her team. She was complemented by sophomore Sophie Doezema who made 10 kills with zero errors to her name.

Out of the 12 blocks made by MSU, fifth-year middle blocker Amani McArthur secured 8 of them to tower over Michigan. With a big victory in their bag, the Spartans will now play with a higher morale in the upcoming matches.
