Four giants of indoor volleyball will be the recipients of the prestigious and canonizing All-Time Great Player Award at the banquet. USA Volleyball made the splendorous announcement in an X post saying, “Look who’s headed for the USA Volleyball Hall of Fame: Indoor greats Robyn Ah Mow, Heather Bown, Jeff Nygaard and Reid Priddy!”. To become eligible for this honor, an athlete needs to spend at least five years on the U.S. national team but also compete in five “top-level” international events.

Top-level in this context denotes the Olympics, FIVB World Championship, and NORCECA. Not only have these legends exhausted these criteria, but they have added more feathers to their cap. Let’s review the impeccable tenure and achievements of each of these volleyball heroes.

  1. Robyn Ah Mow: This three-time Olympian (2000, 04, 08) debuted on the national team in 1999 as a setter. She earned the Olympic silver medal in 2008, which now compliments the golds she earned at the Grand Prix and the NORCECA championships.
  2. Heather Bown: She was part of the same Olympic team as Ah Mow and won the silver medal in 2008. Joining in 1999, she contributed to Grand Prix and NORCECA golds between 2001 and 2012, also securing silver at the 2002 World Championship.
  3. Jeff Nygaard: This U.S. Men’s Indoor Team middle blocker from 1993 to 2000 helped the team earn a World Championship bronze in 1994. He later transitioned to beach volleyball and competed in the 2004 Games.
  4. Reid Priddy: This four-time Olympic outside hitter secured gold in 2008 and bronze in 2016. A key figure in the U.S. Men’s success in the 2007 and 2008 World League, he earned accolades, including the 2012 Player of the Year title.

Importance of the banquet

While volleyball fans are looking forward to catching a glimpse of their favorite stars, the athletes will be on edge. The Hall of Fame ceremony will promulgate the 2024 USA Volleyball Open National Championship, which holds unequal importance in an Olympic year. However, they are ready to forego the pregame jitters and support the event for a noble cause.
