The world of sports is full of several intense rivalries. However, many times, these rivalries are almost completely one-sided. The NCAA Women’s Volleyball witnessed one such rivalry conclude in yet another loss for the underdog team. In fact, this was the third consecutive time the losing side failed to overcome their arch-rivals.

The Iowa State Cyclones women’s volleyball team completely trampled over the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs on 4 November 2023. A social media post broke the news of yet another defeat of TCU as the cyclones emerged victorious. Adding insult to injury, the Horned Frogs lost the game in a humiliating clean sweep.

Iowa State takes complete control of the volleyball game

Iowa State Cyclones carry a staunch 70 percent win rate in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament. Keeping their 3 November showdown in mind, the Cyclones entered the volleyball court expecting a strong game from TCU. However, the contest went for a toss as the Horned Frogs failed to overpower the Cyclones even once. Iowa State Volleyball tweeted about the news of its team’s victory on its official X handle. The tweet carried an image showcasing the points of the three sets, as Iowa won with the scores 25-14, 25-22, and 25-23. The tweet aptly carries the caption, “Cyclones sweep!”

The Cyclones forced a complete blowout in the first set, not allowing TCU to even cross the 15-point mark. While the Horned Frogs did attempt to recover from the initial setback, they couldn’t overpower Iowa. This doesn’t just mark the third consecutive loss for TCU, but it is their ninth loss in its last 10 matches against the Cyclones. The lackluster performance comes as a disappointment to TCU fans. In fact, the Horned Frog supporters had their hopes up for their team after the close combat they witnessed just a day ago.

The 3rd November match that almost redeemed TCU

The TCU Horned Frogs women’s volleyball team entered the court against its arch-nemesis Iowa State Cyclones on 3 November. While the TCU athletes lost the first set to Iowa, they didn’t lose hope and fought hard for a second-set win. Securing the second set gave them a strong enough boost to clinch the third set as well.

However, since the Cyclones carried a slightly stronger edge, they managed to win the final two sets. Despite the effort resulting in a loss, TCU fans were pumped with the almost win posted by their team. The supporters expected a victory for their team, but their team lost very badly instead. While TCU had already lost against Iowa the previous day, the clean sweep after a close game would definitely sting harder. Will the Horned Frogs ever be able to defeat their nemesis?
