Nebraska volleyball continues its reign of dominance, riding high on a sweeping 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 victory over Indiana at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. With a roaring crowd of 8,727 cheering them on, the Huskers secured their 40th straight home win. But as this powerhouse program prepares for the next chapter, they’ll need fresh talent to fill the shoes of standout hitters Ally Batenhorst, Lindsay Krause, and Merritt Beason. Enter Campbell Flynn, a name already turning heads.
Back in 2023, Nebraska Volleyball snagged a gem for their 2025 roster: Campbell Flynn, a setter from Rochester Hills, Michigan, who’s been a rising star in volleyball circles. Ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect and the No. 1 setter by Prep Dig (as per 2023), Flynn is Michigan’s top player and is also listed as the No. 13 recruit and third-best setter for 2025 by PrepVolleyball.com. Flynn committed early, becoming Nebraska’s first Class of 2025 recruit, and now, as her Huskers debut inches closer, she’s making headlines again for Michigan’s top honor!
Abby Barmore, a Nebraska staff writer for HuskerOnline and On3Sports, took to X on November 16 to share a proud moment for future Husker Campbell Flynn. Reposting a clip from Farmington Hills Mercy’s account, she celebrated Flynn’s crowning achievement: Michigan’s 2024 Miss Volleyball. The clip captured a touching moment from the Mercy High School auditorium, where Flynn stood among peers and coaches as the honor was announced.

Miss Volleyball chairperson, Bre Johnson’s words echoed through the room, brimming with pride: “Congrats to all of you wonderful young ladies and coaches on the hard work day in and day out and to help your team find this success. I’m proud to present to you today your 2024 Miss volleyball recipient from Farmington Hills Mercy, Campbell Flynn.” Flynn, radiating humility and joy, graciously accepted the award.

I’m just so blessed and honored to get this amazing award because so many amazing athletes have had it before me.” It was a heartfelt response from a rising star ready to etch her name among the greats. This prestigious honor, voted on by varsity coaches across Michigan, celebrates not just talent but heart, leadership, and dedication.

Bre Johnson, from the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA), handed the award to Campbell Flynn after she racked up an impressive 362 points in the MIVCA voting. After narrowing it down to 10 finalists, Flynn came out on top, with Shelby’s Navea Gauthier close behind in second with 258 points.
Over four stellar years at Mercy, Campbell Flynn showcased every quality that defines this award, earning her place among Michigan’s top ten senior volleyball players. Fun fact? Nebraska’s own Harper Murray claimed the same award in 2022, adding shine to the Huskers’ illustrious legacy—a tradition Flynn now continues as she prepares to make her mark. As Flynn gears up for the 2025 season with the Nebraska Volleyball, all eyes are on her. But what does Flynn herself think about this new chapter, and how does head coach John Cook envision her role in the team?
Nebraska Volleyball and Campbell Flynn!
Let’s take a trip back to June 2023—a moment that marked the start of something magical for Nebraska Volleyball. That’s when the Huskers locked in their first Class of 2025 commit, none other than setter Campbell Flynn. Over the moon with excitement, Flynn couldn’t wait to share the big news and took to Instagram to let her joy spill out in words. “I’m so beyond excited to announce my commitment to play volleyball at the University of Nebraska,” she wrote. With gratitude flowing, she thanked her family, friends, teammates, and coaches for being her pillars of support throughout the journey. “So excited to be a part of the Husker family! GO BIG RED,” she added. And just like that, the Nebraska volleyball legacy gained another star.
On the flip side, Nebraska Volleyball’s head coach John Cook couldn’t hide his excitement about adding Campbell Flynn to the Huskers’ roster. A user on X, aptly named Sushiskers, shared Cook’s glowing praise, and let’s just say, he painted quite the picture of this rising star. Cook described Flynn as a remarkably talented setter, exuding a calm and collected demeanor that every team dreams of. “She’s got the calm presence you look for in a setter and never gets too high or too low,” he remarked.

Standing tall at 6’3” with the rare edge of being left-handed, Flynn brings a physicality and athleticism to the court that’s hard to ignore. “Campbell is very active at the net, almost like another attacker out there at times,” Cook added, highlighting her ability to outsmart defenses with unpredictable sets from anywhere on the court. “Her setting can be unpredictable for defenses in that way.”
Cook didn’t stop there. He was quick to underline Flynn’s illustrious track record. “Campbell has been a setter for multiple U.S. Youth National Teams and led her high school to a state championship. Her decision-making and leadership will be a great benefit to our program,” he said. And for Cook, this journey with Flynn has been years in the making. “We’ve been watching Campbell since she was 12 or 13 years old, and she’s always wanted to be a Husker,” he revealed with pride. With a resume like hers and glowing praise from Cook, it’s safe to say Flynn is poised to shine in the scarlet and cream.
