The 2024 Nebraska Huskers side definitely has a chance of going down as one of the biggest what-ifs ever in college volleyball. Going into the tournament, it looked like the side had everything needed for one to win the title. In fact, the Huskers only lost two games in the regular season, giving fans hopes that after a disappointing loss in 2023, this might be their year.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. While the team was cruising in the tournament, beating Miami, Florida, and the Badgers, the Nebraska Huskers finally met their match in Penn State during the semi-finals. The match also ended in a shocking manner for them, as they lost the game while giving away a two-set lead. This unfortunate circumstance would see top players like Lexi Rodriguez, Merritt Beason, and Lindsay Krause depart without a title.

Thus, the fans are emotional about it all. This feeling in the fanbase seemed to have reached a huge high when Lindsay Krause uploaded a video on December 24th, which was an edit featuring all the Nebraska Huskers players and their best moments on the pitch. The video starts with a Lexi Rodriguez press conference where she’s asked about the thing she’ll miss most about the team.

Lexi got emotional and said, “Just everyone. Every single person. I’m part of this program, and I’ll say it for my entire life that this program was the best thing that ever happened to me.” After this, it shows the team’s best moments in the field with the song ‘Like Him’ by hip-hop artist Tyler the Creator playing in the background. Lindsay Krause also speaks in a background voiceover about how the Nebraska Huskers team has helped her through her numerous injuries and other problems.

She said, “I’m just so grateful for each and every person that has been on this team. I owe you guys so much because that’s something that I didn’t really think I’d ever get back. I’m grateful to my teammates for welcoming me with open arms.” Thus, this made the whole video quite emotional, as the fans couldn’t really fathom what was happening.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Nebraska Huskers deserve the title, or were they just overhyped this season?

Have an interesting take?

They found themselves helpless while witnessing one of their best teams in recent years, to whom they had grown so attached, biding farewell to seniors without a title. Thus, it was a lot to take. This sentiment was expressed by fans very well in the comments.

Fans get emotional while watching the Huskers Senior bid farewell

Most Nebraska Huskers fans lamented the fact that this team couldn’t manage to win a title. This was surprising, as they were the favorites to win it this time around, as they seemed to have the most complete team in the tournament. It may look like their loss would have derailed this narrative. Many Huskers fans now might be led to believe that the team was not really that good and was actually quite overhyped.

However, this notion would be wrong to think as the team really did seem good enough to win the title. In fact, most of these players possibly have a bright future in volleyball. Unfortunately, they just had a bad day against the Nittany Lions. “You guys deserved a championship! Don’t ever think you weren’t worthy of one, two, or three. You all are amazing players and women; congrats on such successful careers at Nebraska!!” said one fan.

Others, however, didn’t take the whole thing in such a mature way. Most were very sad about the whole thing, as all the fan favorites were leaving. “I have cried about this 6 times now 😭” The fact that they saw the edit made them even more emotional. The video shows everything that set the Nebraska Huskers apart. This includes the chemistry of the team, the camaraderie, the skills, the style of play, and just the way they would assert themselves on the court.

It was really special, and fans knew it. “Ok, this one got me 😭😭😭” said one fan. The video hit more in the feels because of Lexi Rodriguez’s video. Lexi is a player who seems to have already become a part of the Huskers’s history as she became their all-time digs leader. The player was arguably one of the best in the team, and her accolades completely back this up with three All-American accolades and the AVCA Regional Player of the Year award.

Lexi’s importance to the team cannot be described in words, as she used to step up every single time that the Huskers needed help and helped them get over the line. Thus, the fans developed a special connection with the libero. This makes it increasingly difficult for them to see her cry after a defeat. Thus, a fan wrote, “You’re not crying alone, Lexi.” While most talked about other topics, one fan spoke about the one who had uploaded the video, Lindsay Krause.

The player has been through a lot in her Nebraska Huskers career. Initially not a starter for the team, the player had to grind it out to make a name for herself. However, the player had to go through various trials and tribulations even after that, as she suffered various injuries and a car accident for quite some time.

Despite this, she has had a great career at the Nebraska Huskers. “I’m so sad to see you go, but excited to watch you shine with the Novas, Lindsay! How wonderful to have experienced something so special that saying goodbye is this hard,” said one fan. The player is now all set to join the Omaha Supernovas in the pro volleyball league alongside former Nebraska teammate Ally Batenhorst. Hopefully, her time there also treats her very well.
