When it comes to collegiate volleyball, you can rest assured that Nebraska is never too far from the conversation. The Huskers boast one of the most successful volleyball programs in the country, and their fans are always up to doing their part to bolster their reputation. Nebraska’s volleyball loyalists never fail to fill up the stands to show just how loved the sport is in the state, and they did it again, setting a record.

As the Nebraska Cornhuskers took on Louisville this Sunday, the match set a new ESPN viewership record. Averaging 684,000 viewers, the past weekend’s match has now become the most-watched regular-season volleyball match on any ESPN platform. Not only that, but the number is also the second-highest regular-season viewership on any platform. An article by Sports Illustrated from September 24 elaborates how the 2023-25 NCAA volleyball season is already looking like a hit among the fans.

The number peaked at 808,000 viewers. What’s even more interesting is that nearly half of the viewers were women, signifying just how popular women’s collegiate volleyball is in the USA. Keeping up with the massive attention on the match, Nebraska defeated the Louisville team 25-16, 25-17, and 25-20. With that, the Huskers climbed to No. 2 in the national rankings, trailing behind only Pittsburg.

The incredible viewership the Sunday game brought might also be attributed to the release of the “No Place Like Nebraska” documentary just before the Huskers’ pre-season kicked off. It’s likely that the trend will only continue to grow as Nebraska begins its Big Ten campaign this Friday as they prepare to host UCLA at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Considering how Huskers fans never fail to show up all guns blazing whenever their team needs them to, they might well be on their way to new records for themselves this time around.
