Ally Batenhorst is home! From representing the Huskers to sparkling with the Trojans and now coming back home as a pro, Ally made her way to the Chi Health Center in Nebraska on January 10 to begin her pro career with PVF Omaha Supernovas. The crowd? Oh, they didn’t hold back—greeting her and other former Huskers with loud applause and warm signs. Consequently, for the fans, it was not just another game, but a homecoming event. And now, Ally is not only returning, she’s teaming up with her former Huskers crew to hype up Nebraska’s next rising volleyball superstar.
Ally Batenhorst just brought the hype to Instagram! Sharing the love and volleyball vibes, she jumped on her IG stories to give a big shout-out to the next Husker star, Campbell Flynn, for snagging the jaw-dropping honor of 2024-25 Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year. Ally posted a flashy flyer that proudly announced Flynn as the Gatorade POY and made it extra special with her caption: “welcome to the @gatorade POY Fam @campbell.flynn06!!!” It’s giving major proud big-sis energy and we are all here for it!
Campbell Flynn, a Mercy High School student, has been a total force in volleyball since she joined the team as a freshman. Now, with her high school reign officially in the bag, she is heading to Lincoln, Nebraska, with some serious bragging rights. On Friday, Flynn clinched the coveted Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year title for the 2024-25 season and became a national sensation.

But wait—there’s more! It was not just the honor that made it so special; there was some other surprise too! Flynn even received a visit from the three-time Olympic beach volleyball legend, April Ross. The USC alum and medal magnet then gave Flynn her award and threw some Olympic gold dust on the event. (Fun fact: Ross has medaled at three Olympics—silver in London 2012, bronze in Rio 2016, and finally, gold in Tokyo 2020). Flynn’s high school legacy? They are the kind of stats that make you drop your jaws; With assists like 1,973, kills being 737. And digs? 679. Don’t forget the 234 aces and a whopping 114 blocks!
And it wasn’t just Ally Batenhorst who was hyping up Campbell Flynn’s big win! Just yesterday, Harper Murray shared a pic of herself with the future Husker, Campbell proudly holding her Gatorade Player of the Year trophy, with the honor’s details shining in the background. Harper captioned the story, “runs in the program” and tagged Nebraska Huskers, Campbell, and Legacy Volleyball Club! She continued, “so so proud of you campbell. i can’t wait to be apart of your journey as a husker…see you soon husker nation.” But coming back to Ally, did you know she also once snagged this honor?
Ally Batenhorst, a former recipient of this honor?
Back in May 2021, it was Ally Batenhorst who caught Gatorade’s attention and totally stole the show. Now an alum of Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas, Ally Batenhorst was crowned by Gatorade as the 2020-21 Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year. Ally’s name sits alongside other legends of the sport who have amassed a staggering 92 gold medals and 13 National Championships.

It is not a trophy of physical strength or power; it is a trophy of all-roundedness. Gatorade recognizes the scholars who perform well academically and have real-deal character, whether in the court or not. Ally was a clear standout among the state winners, who were all amazing; 37 of them were bound for D1 schools, 30 of them had 4.0+ GPAs, and 6 were state Gatorade Players of the Year (and all were still in high school!).
On the other hand, Campbell Flynn will also arrive in Nebraska with an impressive résumé! This 6-3 setter from Oakland, Mich., is not just any recruit; she is a two-time Gatorade Michigan Volleyball Player of the Year and has led her High School to a 31-3 record, where she posted 730 assists, 180 digs, 131 kills, 52 blocks, and 36 service aces while hitting at .394 efficiency. Ranked No. 4 overall and the top setter in the Class of 2025 by PrepDig.com, she’s set to make a huge impact for the Huskers. Talk about a game-changer!
