Their reputed volleyball program has given rise to some of the most beloved names who have found both domestic and international success. Amidst such a scenario, it was only a matter of time before Kori Cooper’s legendary honors were matched by a young Husky. Lexi Rodriguez, the Huskers’ libero and captain, made headlines last year with her Academic All-District honor, and now, she has blitzed into the record books with another milestone at the beginning of the new year.

Rodriguez’s latest achievement demands recognition by virtue of being a rare feat that all student-athletes across the nation’s colleges strive to attain in their lifetime. While Lexi isn’t the only name on the star-studded list, her milestone is certainly worth being discussed.

Nebraska Huskers star achieves rare feat

Lexi Rodriguez led the Nebraska Huskers on a dream run last season. With 436 digs and 3.603 digs per set, the Husker junior has been a pivotal player for the team’s last year’s campaign. However, it wasn’t only on the court that the libero showed her worth. In December 2023, Rodriguez bagged the prestigious Academic All-District award, which honored her performances off-court as well. While the Huskers were handed an unprecedented defeat in the 2023 NCAA national tournament, Rodriguez continues to rack up more awards ahead of the start of the new season.

In a recent post on X, Lexi’s latest honor has been shared by volleyball pundit Lincoln Arneal. In a series of posts, Arneal chronicles Rodriguez’s achievement in detail. “Lexi Rodriguez was named a first-team Academic All-American“, reads one of the posts. The post also reveals that, along with leading the Huskers team, Rodriguez has also maintained an impressive 3.65 GPA. The advertising and public relations major student is the 41st Academic All-American awardee for the Nebraska Huskers.

With her latest accolade, Rodriguez has shattered a 16-year-old dry spell for NU. “Rodriguez is the first Nebraska volleyball player to earn multiple Academic All-America honors at Nebraska since Kori Cooper“, states another of Arneal’s recent thread of posts. Cooper won similar honors back in 2008 and Lexi will join her in an elite club.

Rodriguez and a long list of national sensations named

The Nebraska Huskers libero is joined by seven more student-athletes as recipients of the 2023 Academic All-American first-team honors. Among the others, is, West Michigan University’s setter Logan Case with a cumulative GPA of 4.00.

The other names on the list include three-time All-American honoree Iman Isanovic of WSU, Kendra Wait of Creighton, and Caitie Baird of Stanford.
