While the Nebraska Huskers have been cruising this season, the Miami Hurricanes in the second round of the NCAA tournament posed an interesting threat to the team. Despite being unseeded, the team had defeated the Texas Longhorns and Stanford in the regular season, giving them the reputation of being a giant killer. Thus, Nebraska entered the game wary of the challenge they faced.
Coach John Cook also said that the team was not going to take things lightly. “I think they’re going to be really fun to play. Their lefty opposite does a really nice job. I mean, this team’s beating Stanford and Texas. So this is going to be a great challenge for us,” he said in a press conference. This increased the hype of the game into becoming a genuine challenge for Nebraska. However, the result was carried out by them as expected.
Continuing their 23-match winning streak and journey to the NCAA title, the Nebraska Huskers defeated the Miami Hurricanes in the second round of the tournament through a sweep in three sets with a scoreline of 25-19, 25-14, 25-18. It was a typical Huskers performance, which fans are used to seeing this season. But the road to victory wasn’t all smooth sailing for the side. They were almost in danger of dropping the first set.

Despite starting the set quite dominantly, the Nebraska Huskers made seven hitting errors, which allowed the Miami Hurricanes back into the game. At one point, the unseeded team cut Nebraska’s lead to merely four points. But eventually, the Huskers maintained their concentration and ended up winning the set and eventually the match.
The best player of the game for them was setter Bergen Reilly, who recorded a brilliant 33 set assists. She was the reason that their victory was so comfortable. Thus, now Nebraska has qualified for the regionals, closing in on the finals. As of now, there is a great chance of them being there.
Nebraska Huskers’ historic win against Florida
Before the Nebraska Huskers’ great performance against the Miami Hurricanes put them in the round of 16, they faced Florida A&M in the first round of the tournament. The match could be considered Nebraska’s best performance of the whole season, as they absolutely crushed their opponents, showing them no remorse whatsoever.

The game’s score of 25-3, 25-9, 25-17 broke two incredible NCAA records. This information was first given by Huskers Illustrated author Lincoln Areal, who said, “Record watch: Nebraska’s current record for fewest points allowed in a rally scoring match is 32, which was done twice (vs. Maryland in 2015, Rutgers in 2017) FAMU needs 20 points in the third set to avoid making history.”

This post was made before the third set ended. Florida ended up managing to score only 29 points, thus breaking the record. This was a huge morale boost and a statement win for the Nebraska Huskers, who showed the whole NCAA that they didn’t enter the tournament to play around but to finally get their hands on the trophy. With every passing game, this is seemingly becoming a very real prospect as the Huskers refuse to be dominated by any of their opponents. If they win their next two games against Dayton, they could start dreaming about the title.
