2023 has been quite different for Nebraska’s volleyball team. Huskers has not only made it to the headlines in the volleyball world but has also been a top choice for spectators in women’s sports. In addition to this, Nebraska is among the four teams, including UNK, Wayne State, and UNO, that have managed to set a world record for women’s events. 

Interestingly, Nebraska Huskers etched their names in the women’s collegiate volleyball annals by recording 92,003 spectators at the stadium for the Nebraska vs Omaha match. Apart from its massive fan base and incredible performance, the Huskers are again under the spotlight. This time for their coach John Cook. 

John Cook bags the Coach of the Year award

Ahead of the NCAA semifinals, Nebraska Huskers head coach John Cook was called at the award ceremony in Tampa, Florida. The American Volleyball Coaches Association awarded him the Coach of the Year for 2023. To express the joy, Nebraska Huskers penned, “Let him Cook. For the third time in his career, jcook2 has been named the National Coach of the Year!” on their Twitter handle, Nebraska Volleyball. 

Interestingly, this is the third AVCA Coach of the Year award clinched by John Cook in the last 23 years. Before the recent accolade, John grabbed the honor back in 2000 and 2005. The major reason behind Cook’s huge accomplishment after years is strategic gameplay and the right guidance to the team.

He not only guided the Nebraska Huskers to clinch a 32-1 record at the 2023 Big Ten Volleyball Championships but also helped the team secure the #1 seed at the NCAA Tournament this season. Despite not having seniors on Nebraska’s roaster, Cook guided the Huskers to the National Championship.

Nebraska Huskers on fiery run under Cook

Nebraska Huskers has maintained its legacy throughout the NCAA volleyball Tournament. The team has emerged victorious at the 2023 semifinal showdown. In addition to this, Nebraska not only made it to the showdown or national championship but also eliminated the teams along the way. In the semifinals, Nebraska Huskers defeated the opponent team, Pittsburgh, with a clean sweep 3-0 in an enthralling showdown of 3 sets. It followed their amazing in the regular season.

 In the regular season, they faced their only defeat against Wisconsin. Cook’s tough coaching has been instrumental in this. Even when the team was on an unbeaten streak, cook expressed his dissatisfaction as the team could not deliver clean serves. After adding the feather of Coach of the Year to his cap, Cook is now looking for the National Championship title. Can the Huskers beat Wisconsin to lift the title under Cook’s guidance?
