The Purdue Boilermakers women’s volleyball team is going places. Going into the game against the Michigan State Spartans, they were 16-8 for the season overall. They were also 10-5 in the Big Ten conference prior to that clash. By the end of the first set, the Boilermakers were trailing for the second successive game. The Spartans took the first set 25-23.

In the game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis, the Boilermakers conceded the first set 25-17. However, they won the next three at a canter to win the volleyball match. That game finished 17-25, 25-22, 25-28, 25-27 in favor of the visitors. A similar comeback was rendered a necessity on this occasion, as well. The Boilermakers did not disappoint.

Another successful comeback for Purdue Boilermakers

The Purdue Boilermakers pulled off another comeback to win the volleyball match 23-25, 30-28, 25-23, 25-18. Their official X handle shared a short clip of the rest of the team picking up defensive specialist Rachel Williams following the match’s conclusion. Adjoining that were the words, “Win #17.” The mood was celebratory after they recorded their third win in succession.

The first victory in that sequence came against the Penn State Nittany Lions. After leading two sets to zip, the Boilermakers became their own worst enemies, allowing Penn State back into the match. They lost the next two sets to set up a thrilling finale. Eventually, the home side prevailed 25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 20-25, 15-12. The Boilermakers will face the Wisconsin Badgers, ranked the second-best team in the NCAA. Their last loss came against the same team in Madison, Wisconsin.

Record-equaling performance from the Boilermakers

While facing the Badgers is not likely to be a pleasant experience, the Purdue Boilermakers can take heart from their performance in the lead-up to that clash. In fact, the Boilermakers recorded a season-high record-equaling 16 blocks in the match to wrest control back from the Spartans. The last time they recorded 16 blocks, it was on home turf once more. Their opponents on that day were the Indiana Hoosiers on October 18. The Boilermakers prevailed 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 25-13.

After that, they beat the Nittany Lions in Pennsylvania, then the Golden Gophers. A short-lived losing streak totaling two matches followed those wins. The Boilermakers lost to the Illinois Fighting Illini and then the Badgers.

With the backing of the crowd firmly behind them, the Boilermakers will look to pull off an upset win. It remains to be seen just how successful they will be in that endeavor. The Badgers are presently 23-2 for the season and lost their last match to the Nittany Lions. They will look to bounce back from that setback while the Boilermakers will look to compound the Badgers’ woes.
