It felt like it was written in the stars. After being defeated by the Texas Longhorns in the finals last season, the Nebraska Huskers looked like a rejuvenated side this season. With talents like Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason playing in their last year, the side knew they had to conjure up something special to get their hands on the title. For most of the season, it looked like they were successful in this pursuit, as they lost only two games this season.
However, such is sports that even one game could change a team’s destiny. The Huskers fans had to witness a shocking turnaround by Penn State against them as they went on to win 3-2 after being down by two sets. This must have affected the team a lot, as their hopes for a championship were brutally crushed. Furthermore, this was also the last game for their seniors, which meant that this was the last time Lexi Rodriguez would wear the Nebraska Huskers jersey.
But it seemed that the city is exactly where the heart lies for Lexi, as she is all set to represent another Nebraska-based team with the LOVB Omaha side in the League One Volleyball Tournament. The side, who seemed to be ecstatic after signing the player, announced the news in a fashion that would be well liked by the Huskers fans. “@huskersvb, have no fear; your queen isn’t going anywhere.” They wrote before welcoming the libero to their team.

A few hours after the post, they posted a photoshoot of Lexi Rodriguez sporting the green themed team’s jersey for the first time ever. The player seemed in good spirits, which was also helped by her friend Maisie Boesiger’s presence there, who also posed for a photo with her. This post was captioned with, “@lexi_rodriguez is officially a pro. 💚 A new chapter with @lovboma.” The news seemed to be bound to fill fans with excitement.

However, it looked like the Huskers fan felt pretty divided by the whole thing. On the one hand, they really wanted their libero to be successful and make waves in the sport. On the other hand, they felt that the decision was made quite early after she left the team, not giving the fans enough time to recover. These fans had seen sport the Nebraska Huskers’ red jersey for four years at the Bob Devaney centre and would thus be weirded out when she’s sporting a new jersey.
“So strange to see her in a new jersey,” said one fan. This sentiment was echoed by some other fans too. However, there was the other side of the people who understood the decision was best for her future and were just happy to see her back in Omaha.
Huskers fans struggle to make up their minds on Lexi Rodriguez’s move
Most Nebraska Huskers fans remained undecided on Lexi Rodriguez’s move. But some of them did express their emotions in the comments of the post. A fan again brought up the fact that Lexi will be wearing another team’s jersey after four years of wearing the Huskers one. The volleyball player’s career in college might have ended just days ago, but she can already be regarded as one of the greatest to ever don the shirt.
In fact, her accolades, which include being named the AVCA Regional Player of the Year and the All-American four times in a row, would completely justify this statement. Thus, fans are bound to miss seeing her in Huskers colors. But the fact that she traded the Nebraska shirt for a new one so early has made some fans melancholic about the whole situation. They will need some time to move on from this. “From red to green😥😥😥” said one fan, echoing a similar sentiment.
Thus, this was the thought of one fraction of the fans. However, some fans did really like the fact that she’s all set to return to play in the city where she made her name and the place where she’s loved by all. This helped a lot of fans warm up to the idea of seeing her play on the Omaha side. “Congratulations Lexi!!! Thrilled we’re going to see you play in Nebraska still!!!” said one fan.

The news of Lexi Rodriguez joining the Omaha side also comes after former Husker Ally Batenhorst announced her decision to play for the Omaha Supernovas at the Pro Volleyball League. Thus, Huskers fans can find solace in the fact that some of their best players in recent years will be representing their city itself. This is the best they could hope for, as these players can’t be in college forever.

Thus, seeing Lexi Rodriguez play on an Omaha-based team’s is the next best thing. “Stay blessed and keep being the amazing human being that you are! Go Lexi!!!” said one fan congratulating the libero on the move. Another fan brought up the fact that the LOVB Omaha side also brought Maisie Boesieger for Lexi Rodriguez’s photo shoot. This was a brilliant move, as both of them seem to be great friends.
Maisie is also touted to fill the libero gap that Lexi is about to leave with her departure from the Nebraska Huskers. Thus, it seemed like a great move and almost like a passing of the battalion. “Awe, Maisie was there!!! That’s so sweet!!” said one fan. So, it looks like Nebraska Huskers fans might root for Lexi Rodriguez after all, even though it may take some time for them to warm up to the idea of seeing her in another jersey while reaching huge heights.
