Just a few hours more. On January 11, Lexi Rodriguez will have the chance to play the sport she loves in front of her fans. Three weeks after the night in downtown Louisville, it will be the first time she will take center stage wearing a team jersey. No, this time, the big ‘N’ logo won’t be there on her jersey. After all, she is now an alum of the Nebraska Huskers volleyball program. Rather, from Saturday, she will be the active libero of LOVB Omaha. In the professional camp, she will get chances to share the court with her predecessors, like Jordan Larson and Justine Wong-Orantes. Isn’t that a massive thing? For Lexi, yes, it is. Yet she can’t make herself float away on the wave of time.
Lexi still has her strings attached to the Huskers and the bonds she left there. Before her fresh journey, she had a moment to reminisce over the bonds, connections, and emotions shared in distinct moments in Nebraska. Credit goes to her best friend, who brought in the chance for her.

On January 9, Maisie Boesiger, the junior from Nebraska Huskers volleyball, uploaded a clip on her TikTok handle. Captioned with lines, “These are so cute🥹 @Lexi Rodriguez @kenna,” the clip showed Maisie spending her off-court time with Lexi Rodriguez at different times in the past. The scenes were from the Huskers’ volleyball season as each player in the clip appeared in the locker room, the gym session, or the hotel room. In one place of the clip, the Huskers’ alum, Kennedi Orr, was heard saying, “It’s gonna be a great day. Best day ever. Best day ever. Yeah, this game is to go to the final four. So let’s get some dusk.” So the snippet had been captured before the Huskers’ last match in the postseason. The match was also the last collegiate encounter for Lexi Rodriguez and Kennedi Orr. Just before the LOVB Omaha match, Boesiger brought the past to life again. Meanwhile, in the clip, Boesiger kept the heading, “Editing the vlog and watching the last memories playing volleyball with Lexi and kenna.” The net result? The clip made the libero emotional.
In the comment box beneath her best friend’s post, Lexi wrote, “aeeee stop i forgot abt this.” Lexi’s lines confirm that before the mega opening of her professional debut, the four-time All-American is trying hard to get a hold of her emotions. But she has yet to see success on that front. On Saturday, she has a chance to show up in the final lineup for Omaha against Houston. She might have a tremendous responsibility to guard the defense line in the star-studded lineup. For this job, the necessity is to keep the mind calm and hold everything tight. Lexi is experiencing a battle there. Not just on Thursday, she had a chance on Monday as well to reminisce over the past days in Nebraska Huskers.

On January 6, Maisie Boesiger dropped another clip on TikTok. The topic was the same. It had the past moments when she and Lexi Rodriguez used to rub shoulders in the Big Red team. Similar to her latest post, Boesiger weaved several moments in the clip. There, in the scene, the duo went hand in hand, breaking jokes and enjoying the time as it was their last.

In fact, it was their last. In that snippet, Maisie attached a scene from the Huskers’ senior night in the last regular season. The scene had an added emotional vibe as the background voice joined in with the lines, “We had some laughs…it was fun. You know, all good things must come to an end eventually.” It was the junior’s voice. After spending three years in the Huskers volleyball program, Maisie Boesiger rightly knows the pain of missing her best friend and the guide in the camp. Lexi Rodriguez won’t be there anymore. She will not be in the background to help Boesiger. But she is in the same sport and in the same region. That might help Boesiger to cherish the bonding.
