Lexi Rodriguez’s college volleyball career came to a painful end as Nebraska faltered in the NCAA Championship semifinal. Despite initially leading the game 2-0 against Penn State, the Huskers let their lead slip, ending up on the right side of a reverse sweep. And while Rodriguez initially found the loss unbearable, she can finally look back without breaking down.
In fact, the BIG Ten Libero of the Year is even getting to the stage where she can look beyond the loss. This became evident when the 22-year-old shared a TikTok clip created solely with the moments where Rodriguez broke down in tears after a loss. However, instead of being gloomy about the situation, Libero was in a mood to make a joke.
“I would like to speak to whoever was out to get me these past few years,” Lexi Rodriguez wrote in the caption of the post. The volleyball icon probably addressed the unknown people who filmed Rodriguez crying on the court and during interviews. However, the defensive specialist had a request for her fans. “Someone remind me to start holding the tears in,” Rodriguez wrote on TikTok.

Most of the clips in the video were from NU’s most recent losses, where Rodriguez was incorrigible. The 22-year-old was in no mood for jokes when the Huskers bowed out in the semifinals. As one of the team’s most prolific senior players, Rodriguez felt terrible for letting the two-set lead slip. That is because the Nebraska seniors hoped to avenge last year’s NCAA final loss.
So, not even making it to the final was a blow, and Lexi Rodriguez and Co. were not ready for it. However, despite the heartbreaking loss, the AVCA Regional Player of the Year was grateful for her time with the Nebraska Huskers. “This program was the best thing that ever happened to me,” said the defensive specialist. Thankfully, the next chapter in her career will start close to home.
Lexi Rodriguez will continue to compete among elites
Days after ending her college volleyball career, the defensive specialist dropped a massive surprise for her fans. LOVB Omaha announced that the Libero will continue her legacy in League One Volleyball. “On to the next chapter!! So excited for this opportunity to play in the States and no other place I would want to start than Nebraska,” Rodriguez posted on social media.

What made it even better was the fact that Rodriguez would continue her volleyball career at Nebraska. LOVB even acknowledged this and addressed the Huskers fans in their announcement. “Your queen isn’t going anywhere. Please join us in welcoming @Alexis14Rod to the LOVB Omaha roster,” posted Omaha about the all-time digs leader in Husker’s history.

Many other Huskers alumni will also join the Libero at LOVB Omaha. Justine Wong-Orantes, Madi Kubik, Lauren Stivrins, and Jordan Larson, have all signed with the team. In fact, despite not playing in the same league, Rodriguez will be in the same city as former teammate Ally Batenhorst, who’ll play in the PVF with the Omaha Supernovas. Yet, only time will tell if she’s able to hold in her tears at the pro level.
