In the pro volleyball season, fans are eagerly waiting to see Lexi Rodriguez donning the LOVB Omaha jersey. But it seems she is busy collecting titles and honors. In her last collegiate season, the 5’5” libero went past Justine Wong-Orantes’s most career digs for a college program. She ended her collegiate career on a high note with 1,897 digs beside her name. Surely, the number will motivate others in the coming days. She is also a four-time All-American! In Nebraska Huskers volleyball history, she is only the third one to touch that milestone. Before her, only two hitters, Sarah Pavan, and Kadie Rolfzen, bagged such an honor. So, that fact also makes her the only libero to claim such an honor in the Huskers.

In the Huskers and AVCA’s history, Lexi is the only Libero to achieve four All-American honors. The Illinois native has claimed another distinction and made her place among the legends. Here’s the fun fact: this time, she has also shared the space with Sarah Pavan, the former world beach volleyball champion. But what is the distinction?

On January 13, Nebraska volleyball’s X-handle shared a post to announce the names of CSC Academic All-America honorees. Lexi Rodriguez graced the list with her former teammates, Bergen Reilly and Merritt Beason. The X-handle termed the trio “Queens of the court & the classroom.” Later, Lincoln Arneal, the sports journalist, added a stunning fact.

While reposting the tweet, Lincoln claimed, “Lexi Rodriguez earned her third Academic All-American award. She joins Sarah Pavan, Laura Pilakowski, Janet Kruse and Virginia Stahr as the only 3x honorees in Nebraska volleyball history.” Surprisingly, in this list also, Lexi is the only Libero to make a place. The others came from outside hitter or middle blocker positions. Didn’t Lexi highlight the Libero position in the national sphere by continuing to make a place among such big names?

Last year, she claimed some other unique positions. Example? First, she became the first Libero to make a place in the winner list of the AVCA Regional Player of the Year. The achievement earned her a position in the final four of the AVCA Player of the Year award. In the end, the 21-year-old fell short of snagging the title. But her journey to the list found accolades from others. In the vast history of AVCA, no one could believe before to see a libero winning such high positions. Lexi’s entry into the Nebraska Huskers’ squad changed everything.

But once Lexi Rodriguez didn’t have a chance to find a place on the Huskers’ list. Her short appearance and background couldn’t impress John Cook, the Huskers’ coach. So he decided not to offer the scholarship to teenage Lexi after seeing her in Dream Team Camp. But Kayla Banwarth, the then-assistant coach in Huskers, discovered the gem in her. Meanwhile, Banwarth persuaded John Cook to provide the scholarship to Lexi, and he did so. The rest is, as they say, history.

“I have aspirations to someday make the national team and play in the Olympics. I thought LOVB would be a great start to my pro career because I’ll be around a lot of players with professional experience.” Lexi Rodriguez looked overjoyed after finding a place in LOVB Omaha’s roster. In the camp, she has several former Nebraska Huskers stars to share the court with her. Jordan Larson, Justine Wong-Orantes—you just name it! Also, she has Madi Kubik-Banks and Lauren Stivrins to play alongside her. After a long while, it is her chance to rub shoulders with them on the court. But the fans have yet to see her playing for the LOVB Omaha, her professional squad.

The professional volleyball squad played its first match on January 11. Lexi wasn’t part of the final lineup. Rather, Justine Wong-Orantes played the libero role in the match. So will Lexi find a place in the upcoming match on January 19? The fans are waiting for an answer. But there’s a high chance to see her on the court on January 25. It will be the first home game for LOVB Omaha, and the camp will play against LOVB Madison. Will Lexi miss such a chance? What do you think?
