“I told them in the locker room that the senior class has done some amazing things. They’ve been in three Final Fours. They’ve played for two national championships, and they pretty much have inspired a generation of volleyball, young players, volleyball players, a generation of fans that have really come to love volleyball and follow this team,” said John Cook in a post-match press conference. It was after Nebraska’s unfortunate defeat against Penn State, as the team was knocked out in the final four, devastating Lexi Rodriguez and co.
The team seemed on its way to winning it all this season, as they had only been defeated twice in the season whilst dominating almost every other opponent. However, Penn State was one of the teams that the side had no answer from even in the regular season, losing to them 3-1. Thus, the Huskers fell again to them, collapsing from a two-set lead to 3-2.
This was incredibly terrible news for the seniors. Not only did it shatter their title ambitions, but it also made them realize that they’d now have to leave their college. This is exactly what Lexi Rodriguez is coping with too. Lexi, who looked like she was on a complete rampage this season with her mind set on the trophy, was devastated to see the team getting eliminated.

But now, she has uploaded a TikTok on December 20th with teammate Merritt Beason on the bus. The on-screen text of the video read, “So ur telling me I don’t know when I’ll see Merb next…” Lexi then pretended to cry as Merritt saw the camera and affectionately hugged her. It was a playful heartfelt moment caught between two teammates.
But it seemed both of them were actually trying to cope well given the situation. Lexi Rodriguez captioned this video saying, “It’s not goodbye; just see you later, @Merrittbeason.” Thus, they understood that this was something both players would have to deal with. Merritt even commented on the video, saying, “I love you, sm.”
This shows the great relationship between both players, which they’re bound to miss when they leave. Both of them have not graduated and will now go on their way. The memories of the season, however, will stay forever with them. Hopefully, both Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason recover soon from the heartbreaking semi-final loss.
Lexi Rodriguez could barely control her emotions at her last Huskers game
As her college volleyball career came to a devastating end after the final four, Lexi Rodriguez couldn’t control her emotions. She was left teary-eyed, as despite her best efforts, the libero just couldn’t lead her team to the finish line. Instead, they were brutally made to witness the spectacular Penn State comeback in front of their eyes. After the match, Lexi struggled to fully conjure her words and thus forgot to thank everyone in her last interview.

What she managed to say was, “Every single person is a part of this program. Oh, so sorry. It’s just truly amazing people, and they really changed my life, and they just believed in me, every single person, every single day from the moment that I stepped on campus.” Thus, this marked the end of her beautiful Nebraska career.
A journey that had started after she made waves at the U21 contingent of the US team ended her becoming a Lincoln legend. Despite not winning the title, the volleyball player’s accolades, which include being named an All-American four times, will keep her legacy intact in the college. She will always remain a husker at heart!
