NCAA volleyball lit up for all sorts of reasons—the great matches, high-energy games, or… yes, you got it—TikTok videos! Lucky for fans, John Cook’s Husker crew captured many behind-the-scenes moments from the Big Ten and NCAA season. From Harper Murray keeping the TikTok game strong to pranking Coach Cook himself, it’s been a full show. And let’s be real—Husker fans have been loving those candid GBR moments on TikTok, no matter where they come from.

“They grabbed my phone, and then TikTok happened,” Coach Cook said about his TikTok account. “But hey, if they like it, I like it.” Well, the fans definitely liked it—Cook’s account has gained over 95.9K followers and 2 million likes. Now, with all this TikTok fame, it seems like NCAA coaches are starting to take notes and might just follow suit as they now clear the air on becoming famous TikTok stars themselves!

In a fun little moment shared by Big Ten Volleyball on X, Emily Ehman asked the coaches, “What’s your response when they ask you to film a TikTok?” And wow, did the coaches have some gems! Nebraska’s John Cook just kept it simple: “They ask, I do it.” Meanwhile, Wisconsin’s Kelly Sheffield kept it low-key with, “I don’t get asked too much. They probably know and they probably see my dance moves.” Illinois’s Chris Tamas was all in: “100%. Let’s go. As long as they walk me through it, I’ll be up for anything. Oh, no problem. Anytime. And sometimes I ask, but they don’t want me in it. So I don’t know.”

Then, Penn State’s Katie Schumacher-Cawley dropped a funny one: “They asked my daughters before me, so.” And USC’s Brad Keller, trying to dodge it, said, “They’re trying to do it today and I just really don’t want to do it.” Emily pressed, “Are you gonna?” Brad shrugged and said, “Of course I’m going to. I have to.” Too good!

It wasn’t just John Cook and the usual suspects—you had coaches sharing their own funny reactions to the TikTok craze too! One coach admitted, “I usually just blank stare at them, but I’ll try. I’ll try. I’m not the most coordinated dancer, but I’ve tried a few times. I know. I kind of wish they would ask me more.” Then there’s the coach who was all about keeping it real, saying, “I don’t sing or dance. So there you go.” Yeah, the coaches have some very mixed feelings about jumping into the TikTok lifestyle! But let’s go back to John Cook because it seems like TikTok is not only affecting him but his family as well!

In one of the many gems from John Cook’s TikTok account on December 14, the legendary coach was seen dancing, or rather grooving, with Harper Murray. But here’s the twist—Cook and Murray weren’t the main stars of this social media moment. For your information, nope, someone much younger stole that spot rather hilariously right out from under Husker Nation. Enter Madden, 4-year-old Cook’s granddaughter who effortlessly copied the viral dance of Merritt Beason, proving that the TikTok bug runs deep in the family DNA.

Fast-forward to January 11, 2025, and it seems Nebraska Volleyball’s official TikTok account has officially entered the TikTok arena. This time they got on a viral trend that is the “raise your ya ya ya” trend. If you missed it, this trend was inspired by Broadway star and vocal coach Jodie Langel and her no-holds-barred tutorial on how to prevent voice cracks. The Huskers’ take on it? Absolute fire.

The video begins with Langel’s funny clip and then turns into stunning, cinematographic scenes of Nebraska’s volleyball ladies ruling their home grounds at Bob Devaney Sports Center. Think iconic kills, thunderous smashes, and a lot of swagger. And just to keep it real, the Huskers gave credit where credit’s due, captioning the video, “Raise your ya ya ya for Harper. She made me make this.” Because when Harper Murray says TikTok, you TikTok.
