Upon their arrival at the Indiana University campus, the freshmen of the Indiana Volleyball team immediately captured Coach Steve Aird’s heart. Over the years, this same team, now the current senior batch, has undergone a remarkable journey, contributing to IU’s steady improvement from 1992 to ’95. In a recent challenging match against Maryland, the Indiana Hoosiers emerged victorious. However, the time for departure for the seniors has arrived.

On Sunday, November 19, Indiana University held its senior day program. Despite the joyous occasion, the day proved to be an emotional journey. The seniors not only wrote heartfelt notes expressing gratitude, but the juniors and sophomores also had much to share.

According to Indiana Volleyball’s X post, the caption read, “To the group who helped pave the way. Thank you, seniors.” Undoubtedly, the star batch has sparked a complete turnaround of program and anchored Hoosiers to several victories. About Silverdale-born Elle Hillers, sophomore Avry Tatum said, “Thank you for everything….You’re truly a role model to all of us.” Junior Carey Mills voiced a heartfelt note for comrade cum senior Isa Lopez. She said, “Our main values were so similar….you’re one of the most trustworthy people I know.”?

Further on, Sophomore Candella Alonso Corcelles chose Grae Gosnell as her buddy and shed light on their congenial journey. She said, “….You helped me in every aspect of my experience in here…you work hard for it…” On the other hand, the teary-eyed senior Morgan Geddes who’ll return in 2024 for her fifth season, penned a note for Kaley Rammelsberg. She wrote, “There are so many good memories mama….we’re gonna be really good friends.”?

Freshman Natalia Hagopian showered goodbye love over her best-friend Savannah Kjolhede, said, “…I’m so lucky to be able to call you one of my best friends…” Without a doubt, the seniors have impacted everyone for good and nobody is shying away from accepting that. Having said so, another good news. The Volleyball association of IU has decided to honor these five amazing talents who went extra miles for career kills and blocking shots.

Never falling victim to setbacks, Lopez has played 61 games consecutively, since a major 2021 shoulder injury. Talking of injuries, even Hillers had faced a season-end injury in 2022. But her persistent difficulties restrict her from scoring, but let her cheer from the sidelines. On November 18, the seniors had made her concluding mark with a win.
