The Husker Nation recently erupted in massive cheers for their women’s volleyball team’s latest addition, Taylor Landfair. The star outside hitter made the fans of every volleyball program squirm hard in anticipation as she spent a long time on the trading block. But now, Landfair has finally announced that she will be joining the ranks of the Nebraska Huskers.

This naturally generated a lot of fanfare, as the Nebraska Huskers desperately needed an experienced attacker in their team. Although Taylor Landfair has given her commitment to join Nebraska, a problem regarding her joining persists. In fact, this little problem can result in a potential disruption of the rhythm of the whole team.

The off-season trading portal allows and facilitates the transfer of a student-athlete to another university. But, while the NCAA has provisions to make this transfer easy, some factors can still hold a player back. After all, every student-athlete is a student first and then an athlete.

A similar problem needs to be solved from the end of Taylor Landfair before she will join the Nebraska Huskers. Apparently, the offensive expert will be staying back at the University of Minnesota to finish her degree before reporting to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

While this still ensures that Landfair will become a Husker, it generates a new set of problems. Taylor Landfair will not be joining the Nebraska Huskers before May. This means that she will miss a lot of off-season practice time.

A player of Landfair’s caliber already has her fundamentals cleared. However, she will need all the time she can get before playing in a new team. In fact, more than her, the team will also need to learn to play with her.

Do the Nebraska Huskers have enough time on their hands?

Taylor Landfair isn’t a normal recruit for the 2024 season. She will join the Nebraska Huskers to lead the offense, and to take on formidable foes like Wisconsin and Texas. Thus, she will most likely be a starter and play for several minutes on the court. This makes it imperative for the Huskers to also match her rhythm, especially when carrying out feints and combination attacks.

If the competition dates for the 2024 season fall around the 2023 schedule, the Nebraska Huskers may have their first match on 19 August. Therefore, including May, Taylor Landfair will be with the Huskers for almost three months. But these three months will also require the outside hitter to adjust to a new university, not just a new volleyball team. Will Taylor Landfair and the Huskers be able to get in sync before the 2024 season kicks off?
