According to Omaha.com, in June 2023, Nebraska did not wait for the next cycle of college volleyball recruiting. Just two days in, they landed a big win: the signing of 6-foot-3 setter Campbell Flynn, a student from Rochester Hills, Michigan. Prep Dig has Flynn ranked as the No. 5 recruit in the nation, while PrepVolleyball.com lists her as the No. 13 recruit. College coaches began calling the 2025 class early, and for setters like Flynn, there is always that extra pressure to choose the option that’s just right.

“It’s been very emotional and stressful, but also really exciting,” Flynn said. “I was blessed for all of the schools that wanted me.” Under pressure, Flynn narrowed her decision to Nebraska and Texas–two giants of volleyball. Though the camp in Texas was rather recent for her, the tradition of Nebraska influenced her. She said she had been to the Huskers’ volleyball camps for the past two years, so she was aware of the excellent facilities and tradition of the team. Also, she had been under the tutelage of the assistant coach Kelly Hunter, a two-time national champion setter for Nebraska.

“Ever since I was a little kid watching volleyball I’ve always wanted to play at Nebraska,” Flynn said. “And they’ve followed me for a while, and I want to fulfill the dream of playing at Nebraska. It’s such a big honor to play at the next level at Nebraska.” Flynn hails from Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, where her volleyball roots run deep. Her mom was a college volleyball player at Bowling Green and has been a high school coach, so it is safe to say that volleyball runs in her genes. Finally, Flynn did it, she called coaches in Nebraska to confirm her decision to join her dream team. “It was really exciting,” she gushed. “I love all of the coaches, and it was a relief telling them.” And just like that, another chapter opens for this incumbent star.

In Nebraska, volleyball is not just a sport, but a culture, and nothing represented this more than Volleyball Day on August 30th, 2023. Picture this: A record-breaking audience of 92, 003 filled Memorial Stadium to watch the Huskers beat the Mavericks. This was not just a day to celebrate volleyball, but it marked Nebraska as a shrine to women’s sports. Moreover, the match against the Omaha Mavericks received an astonishing 518,000 viewers on the Big Ten Network and was the most-watched non-conference volleyball event on the network. Well, now with Campbell Flynn in the mix, what do you think about her joining Nebraska Huskers? Let us know in the comments!
