With the 2024 season done and dusted, they’ve had some struggles, be it the NCAA title miss after the Penn State blow or their favorite seniors, Lexi Rodriguez, Merritt Beason, Lindsay Krause, and others having packed up their GBR jerseys for good! So when it comes to Harper Murray and those NCAA transfer portal rumors, they get sensitive. But Murray herself is in no mood to put out a definitive word. Instead, she’s giving things a hilarious twist!

Harper Murray wrapped up 2024 with things looking better than before. She aced 411 kills and 294 digs this season, with the former being the highest on the Husker table. So it’s clear why any college would jump at the opportunity to add her to their team, should she enter the transfer portal. But all the rumors aside, Harper Murray, as of now, seems like she doesn’t want to shake things up. She’d much rather keep shut on this topic and enjoy her peace while it lasts.

Thus, on January 13, 2025, Murray took to her favorite social media platform, TikTok, to break her silence on the NCAA transfer portal buzz floating around town. With the caption, “*me when the transfer portal opens,” she added a hilarious 5-second video of her doing a voiceover on Kourtney Kardashian’s line that goes, “I just don’t have the energy for this. I am unsubscribing from this drama.” Oh boy, what a dramatic way to indicate that she’s not interested in the talks around the transfer portal!

But on one hand, as she hinted at not looking to leave Nebraska, the fans quickly spotted a disparity in the video. While filming this brief clip, Harper Murray wore a navy blue sweatshirt, with a yellow ‘M’ printed on the center. Well, you are guessing it right! It was a Michigan hoodie that she shot the same in. And this stirred her fans. Some quickly pointed, “Is that a…. Michigan shirt?” Another one bluntly questioned, “Why the h*ll you wearing Michigan stuff 😭😭😭” Things spiraled, pushing Murray to intervene and clarify, “I’m from ann arbor bro.”

Until, the fans who knew the reason also chimed in and defended Murray saying, “Because her dad played football there her sister plays volleyball there and she was born and raised there.”

Looking at how even the smaller detail becomes a potential hint at things, a Murray loyalist commented, “People love to tell where an athlete is going before the athlete knows themselves.” And she hands down agrees to it! No wonder she replied, “Literally like u[fans] know nothing just shut it and wait.”

Well, after watching this TikTok video, Harper Murray’s inclination to stay back with the Huskers is a tad clearer than before. Although, it’s not a certain yes. But, if we look at the potential reasons, there are a few why she would surely want to stay back with Nebraska Volleyball.

Reasons why Harper Murray wouldn’t want to leave Nebraska Volleyball

Do we have to state the obvious? Harper Murray’s primary reason for resisting a transfer is her loyalty to Coach John Cook. The friendly bond the two share is evident to the world. Plus, she’s his favorite pupil and it will always be an open secret! No wonder she calls her the closest she has to a father figure and has his initials, ‘JC’ taped on her index finger in every game. In fact, she upholds, “I have a lot of love and respect for him [John Cook]. I wouldn’t be the person or the player I am without him. And I know that I owe a lot to him.”

Harper Murray is certainly not leaving him for any other side. After all, even the smallest things, like an 8-year-old letter he wrote to her still make her emotional. And because of his remarkable influence, she could return to the 2024 season. After her offseason legal troubles, Coach Cook pulled her back to the track. He declared she was ready to learn from her mistakes and was given a chance. From then to now, a lot has changed.

The Nebraska fans have accepted her, loving the TikTok snippets she regularly posts with Nebraska Volleyball’s mastermind, Coach Cook. So how could she give up on such a loyal fanbase?

Also, there are other potential reasons too. For this season, Nebraska Huskers’ women have reported no volleyball transfer. Apart from the seniors who have left, no one entered the portal this season. This just shows how strongly the sides have been standing with each other. Also for Harper Murray, she is yet to lift an NCAA title for the side, after coming so close to it in 2023.

So that will surely be on the cards for her, keeping her back from moving on to any other college.
