If you’re a collegiate volleyball fan, chances are you admire the Nebraska volleyball squad quite a bit, even if secretly. The Huskers‘ fame is almost legendary, and playing under John Cook is like a dream come true for any player. While that opportunity doesn’t come to everyone, the ones who are lucky enough often go on to become national celebrities. And that’s exactly what makes the whole prospect so special for the newest Huskers signee.

Teraya Sigler, the No. 1 national recruit, has been signed by Coach Cook ahead of the 2025 season. The 6’2 high schooler was also named the 2024 Gatorade Arizona Volleyball Player of the Year for her incredible form and helping her school to win multiple state titles. But while the Huskers fans will be eager to see what Sigler brings to the table for the Nebraska volleyball team, the new recruit is yet to get the hang of the reality herself.

On January 13, Hail Varsity posted an update on X sharing Teraya Sigler’s elation after signing for the Nebraska volleyball program. In the post, the fresh new signee noted what made her decide upon the Huskers. When the host asked Teraya what stood out for her about the program, Sigler revealed, “When I was 1o-years-old, they were the first match I watched on television….You know, the crowd, you can feel it through the screen how much people live watching volleyball,” highlighting it has been a dream in the making for almost a decade to play under John Cook. She also noted how the atmosphere that the Nebraska volleyball fans can create is an exciting one and that it was also a factor behind her decision.

I feel like that was really important to me,” said the volleyball star, mentioning the fact that the sport enjoys such popularity in the state is a great thing for women’s sports in general. Seeing Sigler’s love for her new camp, the host had to ask if this was something the athlete’s older self would be happy about. “Little me would be screaming……Little T would not expect to be where she is now,” admitted the 2025 Nebraska volleyball recruit with a massive grin on her face.

All things combined, it was an easy call for Teaya. “When I got the text message on June 15, it was just hard not to say yes,” she said candidly, while also recalling how it was surreal during her Zoom call with Coach Cook. However, while Sigler’s over-the-moon feeling is yet to subside, the excitement is just as high for Nebraska volleyball fans, especially considering the incredible skill she has already shown on the court in her high school era.

The Huskers can potentially amend for the 2024 season with fresh blood

In the past season, Sigler helped Horizon High School achieve a 25-5 record and a fourth straight Conference 5A state championship. With 1,951 kills and 1,128 digs amassed in her high school career, she deservedly was awarded the Gatorade National Volleyball Player for the second straight year. The athlete was also mentioned in the AVCA National Player of the Year Watch List, which only goes on to show that John Cook has bagged one incredible new star for the 2025 season. Already being part of the U.S. Girls U19 Team that won the gold medal at the 2023 FIVB U19 World Championships and the U.S. Girls U21 team that won gold at the 2024 NORCECA Continental Championship, Teraya has displayed that she can become a Nebraska volleyball star.

And John Cook is also excited to see what comes next in Sigler’s career. “Teraya has a heavy, heavy arm, but she’s also a very good all-round six-rotation player,” he said. Further, Cook added, “She’s played in the big matches and done really well and been named MVP several times. She’s got a great arm and she’s a great passer. She’s a great competitor.” Along with the Arizona native, Nebraska volleyball has signed four more emphatic stars from around the country, including the Gatorade Michigan Volleyball Player of the Year, Campbell Flynn, who will be joining the team as a setter.

The 2024 season ended abruptly for Cook & Co. Despite a solid regular season, the team failed to win the NCAA D1 Volleyball Championship after being defeated by Penn State in the semifinals. But can Flynn, Sigler, and the other new joiners help the Huskers fans celebrate their first national trophy since 2017 this season? What do you think? Tell us below!
