Despite the exit of many worthy seniors, Nebraska Volleyball clearly hasn’t gone short on talent. That’s because the young guns that are added to the Huskers’ roster for 2025 have already started proving—they can not only replicate the highs GBR touched last season but surpass that mark. No wonder, two of their incoming recruits have now caught the eyes of the masses.
Back in 2024, Nebraska Volleyball signed Campbell Flynn to be part of the 2025 Big Reds side, a decision that is clearly turning out well for them. Flynn, the setter, is shaping up to be the player who can fill in the big shoes of her Nebraska seniors, and so is Teraya Sigler. And how is that? Well, the two are no longer just freshmen but state honor recipients!
As per the latest update on January 9, 2025, both Flynn and Sigler were named the Gatorade Players of the Year in their respective states on Thursday. It’s truly a big win, as this award is presented annually to those high school student-athletes who show great athletic excellence, academic achievement, and exemplary character. Interestingly, both of these Nebraska Volleyball players are not debutants but repeat honorees, as they have now bagged their second straight title!

But clearly, the honors were theirs for the taking from the start. After all, matching up to Flynn, who has been an exceptional player for Mercy High School with 730 assists and 180 digs this past season, is no joke, right? She’s also someone who has led her side to a 31-3 streak and the Division I regional semifinal stage in 2024. On the other hand, Sigler was ranked as the nation’s No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025 by PrepDig.com, thanks to her ace volleyball career at Arizona, with 1,951 kills and 1,128 digs!

Moreover, way before both of them could bring pride to Nebraska Volleyball, Flynn and Sigler were on the gold medal-winning U.S. U21 women’s national team last summer. Thus, they know what it feels like to be at the top of the game! Also, this experience had led the Huskers’ coach John Cook to hail their decision-making and work ethic previously. Not just that here’s what he had to say about how exactly these girls would be a value-add to the program.

Nebraska Volleyball Coach and his 5 signees for 2025
Before the 2025 season started, the Cornhuskers racked up the nation’s top volleyball talent. Not only Flynn and Sigler, but GBR also added opposite hitter Ryan Hunter, libero Keri Leimbach, and middle blocker Manaia Ogbechie to their roster. And naturally, with such great players onboarding his team, coach John Cook had a lot to say. Especially about Flynn and Sigler, who have now picked state honors.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Flynn and Sigler lead Nebraska Volleyball to new heights, or is it too soon to tell?
Have an interesting take?
Hailing the former Mercy High School candidate, coach Cook said, “At 6-3, Campbell is a taller, left-handed setter. She’s very physical and athletic and can make sets from anywhere on the court. Her setting can be unpredictable for defenses in that way. Campbell is very active at the net, almost like another attacker out there at times.” He was truly impressed by how these factors could make her a great addition to Nebraska Volleyball.

And here’s what he had to say about Sigler. “Teraya has a heavy, heavy arm, but she’s also a very good all-round six-rotation player.” He also called her an extremely physical outside hitter as well as someone who has really good range with her shots and is a smart attacker.
But are these newcomers good enough to replace pros like Ally Batenhorst, Merritt Beason, Lindsay Krause, or Lexi Rodriguez who have charted great success under Nebraska Volleyball? Well, only time will tell. But guess, the show has already begun with these awards!
