Let’s take a trip back to about a month ago, when Purdue volleyball fans were left scratching their heads and clutching their hearts. December 2024 shook things up in a big way as not one, not two, but four Boilermaker players entered the transfer portal. Yes, you got that right, four significant names on the roster left to try out other pastures, and fans were left bewildered, worried, and in some cases just plain old curious about what was going on behind the scenes. One of those players was middle blocker Lourdès Myers, a force to be reckoned with on the playing field, who found herself being transferred with only one year of playing time remaining.

Lincoln Arneal brewed it on Twitter, saying, “Purdue middle blocker Lourdès Myers has also entered the transfer portal. She has one year of eligibility left. She averaged 1.28 kills and 1.06 blocks per set this past season. Myers hit .818% (9-0-14) against Penn State and was named defensive player of the week Nov. 13.” Big stats, big moves, and now, big news! With just one year to shine, the ex-Purdue Volleyball star has now released a new update on her next move.

Purdue Volleyball star’s latest move!

Big news alert, folks! Former Purdue volleyball’s star Lourdès Myers simply posted an update on Instagram, and the volleyball community has gone wild. A few hours ago, she shared a photo wearing a Minnesota jersey and shared her big news with the following caption: “So excited to announce that I’ll be using my final year of eligibility at the University of Minnesota! Go Gophers! 〽️” With that iconic gold and maroon jersey, she’s stepping into a whole new chapter with the Gophers.

Even the Minnesota Gophers fan site GopherHole.com couldn’t keep quiet about it, posting on X, “Former Purdue Middle Blocker Lourdes Meyers has announced she is transferring to the #Gophers. She was a starter at Purdue in 2024, averaging 1.06 blocks/set, 1.28 kills/set and hit .356. Lourdes has 1-year of eligibility remaining.” Numbers like those and a new number on her chest make it appear as if Myers is prepared to make waves in the Big Ten once more.

Let’s talk about Lourdès Myers and her impressive 2023 season at Purdue—because this redshirt junior was not playing around! She created history, setting the Purdue hitting percentage record in a five-set match with .818% (9-0-14) against #16 Penn State on 11/5/23. That performance not only set records but also ranked her at the 4th position in the program history for the highest hitting percentage in any match, which was attained by only four other Boilermakers ever.

Furthermore, she was honored Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week 11/13/23 and started all but one match, playing 112 sets out of the team’s 125. But that is an increase of 286% compared to the previous season! But wait–Lourdès wasn’t the only Purdue Volleyball star entering the transfer portal!

Boilermakers join the transfer portal!

December 2024 was a busy month for Purdue volleyball and no, their Sweet 16 elimination by Louisville was not the only reason for that. That was only the tip of the iceberg when the Boilermakers suffered that stingy loss to the Cardinals. The twist that stirred fans the most was the reshuffle on the Boilermakers’ line up. Four players, two of which are All-Big Ten in Eva Hudson and Chloe Chicoine, entered the transfer portal. Well, you heard it here first folks: four key players cleared their desks and people were scratching their heads about what was going on in West Lafayette.

Let’s break it down. Hudson, a three-time first-team All-Big Ten selection and the Midwest Region Player of the Year, is transferring to the Kentucky Wildcats alongside teammate Lizzie Carr who also entered the portal. Hudson, whose mom rocked the Purdue jersey back in the day, was well on her way to chasing the school’s career kills record with her 1,641 kills and 792 digs over three standout seasons.

Carr, on the other hand, has played 39 matches at Purdue, scored 87 kills and 38 blocks, and is now moving to Kentucky to join her brother. Chicoine, the hometown hero and former No. 1 recruit, will be transferring to Louisville–the very team that cut Purdue Volleyball’s NCAA run short. Chicoine departs from the collegiate scene with 841 kills, 631 digs, and a treasure trove of memorable moments that serve as a plot for a movie.

But wait, it’s not all departures for the Boilermakers. They’ve been busy restocking their roster with fresh talent from the portal. Middle blockers Bianka Lulić (Miami) and Lindsey Miller (USC) are joining the squad, along with outside hitters Akasha Anderson (Michigan State) and Nataly Moravec (Iowa). While it’s tough to say goodbye to star players, the new additions bring a lot of potential and firepower to Purdue Volleyball’s lineup. Safe to say, the Boilermakers aren’t going down without a fight in 2025.
