Reliving old sporting rivalries in new match-ups is indeed an exhilarating moment for the players and spectators. A similar thing is going to happen in the forthcoming final match of the NCAA women’s volleyball championship. The No. 1 overall seed, Nebraska Huskers are on-route to their championship goals pitched against the reigning champion Texas Longhorns. Meanwhile, the match holds a special significance for Huskers’ assistant coach Kelly Hunter.

Kelly Hunter was part of the Nebraska Huskers team that defeated the Longhorns in the year 2015 to lift the title. Facing a former nemesis is indeed a déjà vu moment for Hunter, as she reflected on it ahead of the championship.

Hail Varsity took to their Twitter handle to gather insights regarding Kelly Hunter’s view on parading to the finals wherein the Texas Longhorns appear as formidable opponents. Ana Bellinghausen interviewed Hunter to reflect on her opinion and advice for the Nebraska Huskers. And, Hunter has a few important words to say, i.e., “Soak in the moment. Play in the moment.”

Kelly Hunter has a storied association with the Nebraska Huskers. She has been a three-time Husker All-American, along with making history as a two-time national champion. In December 2021, the former setter joined the team as its assistant coach.

She lifted the spirit saying, “…you’re ready and you’ve done all the work to get to this point so it’s just time to go out there, and play free, and play loose and have fun.” Interestingly, during the conversation, Hunter did not forget to mention Nebraska’s fans.

Hunter acknowledges fans’ support in a “gritty match”

In the interview, Kelly Hunter acknowledged that the Texas Longhorns are strong opponents. She said, “I think it’ll be a really gritty match and it’s going to come down to some final points.” And, being a member of a champion Huskers team, she established the importance of the role that fans play.

Hunter added, “I know that’s a small piece of a big puzzle, but our fans show up and they’re here to help us. And, it helps us have energy.” She is immensely thankful to the Nebraskan fans for their unwavering support and presence during the final notes of the interview.
