The Panthers have breezed into their 4th consecutive Sweet 16 and this feat from the volleyball team will surely lend a helping hand in their postseason dreams. After winning the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the Panthers are looking to etch their name in NCAA history. Panthers’ head coach Dan Fisher has also hinted at their lofty ambitions lately.

Meanwhile, A major feather was recently added to the cap of the Panthers’. It will surely lend an extra boost to the Panthers’ confidence as they head into the Sweet 16 this Thursday.

Pittsburgh Panthers players make a name

For the first time in the history of Pittsburg Panthers, seven athletes have been named to the AVCA East Coast All-Region team. The official Pitt Volleyball account on X shared the stellar achievement by the Panthers a day ahead of their important post-season match. “Breaking records left and right“, declared the post. It further declared, “A program-high seven Panthers have been named to the @AVCAVolleyball East Coast All-Region team!” Given how they’ve decimated their rivals to step into the Sweet 16 with the big guns, this wouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Panthers star Rachel Fairbanks has made the list thanks to her prolific performance in the two group-stage matches. Along with Fairbanks, Olivia Babcock, Emma Monks, Emmy Klika, Chiamaka Nwokolo, Torrey Stafford, and Valeria Vazquez Gomez have also been named by the AVCA for the 2023 East Coast All-Region team.

Fairbanks has also been named the East Coast Region Player of the Year, while Babcock clinched the title for the East Coast Freshman of the Year. After winning the ACC Setter title for the ongoing season, Fairbanks’ latest achievement will surely make her want more assists and kills in the upcoming matches.

Panthers chase their dream with staunch display

In their first postseason match against CSU, the Panthers won with a clean sweep. The Pitt volleyball team has been running riots at the ACC and their regular season also ended with a banger. The adrenaline didn’t wear off and Pittsburg stomped over SCU in their second match after dropping a set.

It is not without reason that Coach Fisher said few days back, “…We talked about being able to host, winning an ACC championship, and hopefully winning a national championship, and so this is what we’ve been dreaming about and preparing for.” With such much prowess waiting to be unleashed, the Panthers might be looking at some truly phenomenal times at the NCAA Sweet 16, and Washington State should do better by taking notes.
